Engine/turbo trouble. Need help/suggestions

I am having some recent problems with my ty. Let me first go over what is done to it. It is basically a stock motor (98k), ultimate (currently running T118), Kennebell Air system, Walboro Fuel Pump, 50lb Fuel Injectors.
Ok....
I recently put it on data scan (thanks Brandon sy2206) and found out everything was normal, but only getting 7lbs of boost max.
Today, I take it out. I hit it hard, it boost real quick up to around 7lbs, and all of a sudden, it feels like it hits its limit, and I loose all boost.
So, also today, I only put it about 1/2 throttle going onto a highway (going about 35 mph), and it boost really quick (within about 3 seconds) to its limit, and blows off a bunch of BLACK smoke, and looses all boost. Brought it home, o other problems. No knocking, no temp change/fuel pressure change, oil temp/pressure, etc., everything else normal.
Before this happened today, I was going to adjust the wastegate regulator to get the appropriate boost, but now I am confused. I am wondering if the trubo is gone, or something. Anyhelp would be great:(

I'd start off checking the obvious things.... turbo shaft play, vac lines, remove wastegate rod and make sure wastegate isn't partially frozen...

Take off the orange bend and try and spin the turbo. Sounds like it dumped an oil seal. Side to side play isn't too bad but axially i.e. in and out is terminal.

If it dumped an oil seal. Does that mean the turbo is dead.... If so.....

where would that be? Sorry, I am new to the typhoon.... But I am trying to learn as I go.

Under the distrubiator cap where all the ignition cables goes to. you have to loose the distributor cap and there is a module you will see it and the map sensor should be at the driver side on top of your valve cover with a vaccum hose

Re: Engine/turbo trouble. Need help/suggestions

IIRC there's either an electrical or vac connector on the wastegate solenoid, when unplugged will only allow the truck to make 8lbs of boost . I haven't dug around down there recently so its kind of fuzzy in my mind. Oil seal would probably be identified by blue smoke, at idle and increasing with throttle. Does the Ultimate require 50lb injectors? black smoke is always a rich condition, either caused by overfueling, restriced air intake, or a cut in ignition.

Very nice info!
OK, I just found a couple of culprets. As I was taking the elbow off, I found the vacuum tube on top of the wastegate solenoid was attached, but to nothing. It looked burnt or cut or, exploded.
I checked the turbo. It is OK, no issue or play and spins free!
I am going to take the wastegate solenoid off tomorrow and check it and the arm to see if the flap is the problem.
I am wondering if that vacumm was undone is the entire culpret.
If you can find any other info on tha, send it my way!

OK, so I put on new vacuum lines on it. Man, were the old ones brittle! Adjusted the rod on the wastegate.
I noticed the power gains imediatly, but when it gets up around 10lbs, it almost feels like it backfires, and boost looses power
I am thinking rotor/wires/plugs
Maybe they are bad. Any thoughts?

Check the ignition timing too maybe the timing is not correct.

Disconnect the wire shown above, then with the engine idling see where the mark on the balancer is in relation to the pointer. It should be at 0*. If not, loosen the hold down clamp bolt for the distributor (its not easy), and slowly turn the distributor until the marks line up (engine still running). Tighten down the bolt, reconnect the wire, and your set.

Fair warning though, there is one wildcard to this: Sometimes, with age and milage, the ring on the balancer will move and won't be at TDC like its supposed to be. If you find that the truck still runs poorly or is worse than before, verify that the balancer hasn't slipped by comparing the mark and the pointer with something in the sparkplug hole (a pencil will work) on cylinder #1 (drivers front).

Rotate the engine and with a helper, have them watch the pencil until its out as far as it will go before it starts going down again. There are 2 points at which it will be all the way up, compression and exhaust (valve overlap). If the pointer and mark aren't lined up, you arent on the right stroke, it should be at TDC on compression. If you are at TDC compression and the marks arent aligned, the balancer has slipped. Its somewhat hard to explain this in writing, but once you get out and do it it makes sense. Good luck!

Yikes! This is my last resort if it comes to this!
