thanks for the sarcasm, it made me laugh!
i am still trying to figure out how to get the picture off of the my pictures folder on to the thread. the trans side of the converter looks like any other converter,but smaller,then steps up to a large flat plate that appears to be about 1.5" thick where it bolts to the flex plate. this looks freaky! all of the hot rodders that i know, get the look on thier face that states "WTF is that!" i sent this photo to a local syty friend and he has no clue either.
i am trying to figure out why my converter is not locking up. i have jumped the terminals at the aldl connector,and there is no change. i thought i would check to make sure that i actually had a lock-up converter--and i found a frankinstien.

Sounds like you are describing a sy/ty 9/11 converter. Its 9inches on the trans side then steps up to 11 inches on the engine side.

saturday, i checked in my parts dept. and they found the tcc soleniod part number to no longer be a good number. i'll have to pull the pan next,i guess. hopefully the fix is something minor and not a long drawn out ordeal.

before you drop the pan,you can manually lock it up by crossing the 2 top,outside terminals of the diagnostic port under the steering wheel..key on,cross the terminals(with a paper clip or sumthin)..you can HEAR the solinoid in the pan 'click'...no 'clicky',no 'locky'.
fairly common for that solinoid to freeze up. Waller probably has them on hand...or your local tranny builder.

thanks dave i was having trouble posting that. it'scrazy looking right? i have heard that it has an anti-balooning plate on it and also heard that it looks like some freaky homebrew pos that was created in somebody's shed. i don't believe either.....just another strange feature of my truck!

It's my understanding that that's why they are shaped like that. They are usually 10" converters with 12" lockups in them.
