GMC copyright

This may be a stupid question ... In one of my design classes we are learning how to make silk screen shirts. We each have to create a design or pick a logo. It can be no larger than 3in.X3in. so i was just going to copy the "TYPHOON" logo onto the pocket of a shirt or something. One of the rules was that "the logo must not infringe on any copyright designs". Could i use the word "TYPHOON" in the font it has on all the decals or does GMC still have the copyright to this?

Re: GMC copyright

Hell people make all sorts of stuff like that on here all the time. big or small, im sure there might be some sort of legal crap, but as i see it it is free advertisement.

i would not be too worried about it

Re: GMC copyright

your teacher is just covering his ass in case you decide to use a logo that would have ppl riled up. pas and gmc arent gonna come after you for using the logo but technically it would be copyright infringement. it wouldnt hurt to run it by your teacher and see what he thinks

Re: GMC copyright

I don't see how they could copyright the name of a storm. Now they maybe have a copyright on the fonts( how it's spelled) but I don't think they would go after a high school kid making them.

Re: GMC copyright

Im not worried about people coming after me for copyright infringement. I know that probably would never happen. I just wanted to know if i am going against my teachers rules. I'll just use the TYPHOON logo anyway, he probably doesn't know what it is.

Your not mass producing shirts and your not selling them. Doing it one time for educational purposes probably wont kill anyone. Doing it and then selling it and making profit, it will sooner or later come and bite you in the ass. :2cents:

If your silk screening and need vector art, this may save you some time: http://www.allfreelogo.com/logo/gmc-logo.html

I can answer your question. While GM might not own the Naming Rights to Typhoon, they do still hold the copyright on the Logo itself, as well as Syclone, and Sonoma GT. If you use the logo one time for "educational" purposes, you can use it.

Anything beyond a one time use, with intent to sell/redistribute requires written permission from GM, as well as an example of what said complete item will look like. You also have to have a printed disclaimer somewhere on the item "used with permission etc. etc."

How do I know? I've jumped through the hoops
