Audi TT Gets Owned

Took the syclone out for a spin today and decided to cruise the 4 lane thru town. An Audi TT jumped up next to me in the right lane and jumped on it a couple times. After two more lights, the road opened up leaving town and he did a fly by. He had a bunch of tuner decals in the back window an some kind of boost decal also. I passed the car in front of me and got along beside him at about 45.

Not my favorite speed to start from, but what the hell. He looked over and punched it. I nailed it at about the same time and instantly walked him about five car lengths and he let off. Later he did another fly by but I had cars in front of me and he turned off at the next light. My truck was running real good with the cold outside temps.

Nice!!, At my new job theres this gangsta guy that is into jdm cars and he has a honda accord with a g20 engine or something like that and turbo'd it also, he said he spent like 7k just on the block......well we ran for a lil over an 8th of a mile and lets just say it lookd like the honda was parked during the entire race. I got about 8 cars lenght on him during the race and he said he had a bad start so we went again and same outcome, 30ish degrees seem to make the ty more than happy

Nice kill Hammerhead! Your Sy is pretty much setup the way that I want my Ty to end up. Hopefully then I can beat up on some Audi TT's and the like. Do you know what your Sy runs time wise...1/8 or 1/4? Thanks.

Re: Audi TT Gets Owned

Back when I had the 12 second recipe with cat back exhaut, ultimate chip and stock turbo, I took it to the track and my first run was a 12:90 @ 103. Some where around 8:14 in the 8th around 89mph. My 60 ft was 1.78 with just a little spin. That was with 18lbs, and a couple of gallons of race gas added to the 93.

Since I have the 20g and the 3 inch downpipe and gutted cat, I have not ran it yet. In the makes of going to code 59 and 60lb injectors. My goal is 11.99. I am running 20lbs right now and did a couple of runs with my Belltronix timer and banged off some 12.60's with wheel spin. I will probable need to up the boost to about 24-26 to reach my goal along with drag radials on the rear and front end limiters. Hope to find out this coming spring.

Just curious if you had started w/the code 59?

Also, what torque converter are you using?

If it's stock, I think you could drop an easy few tenths by using a better converter.

I know if I ran a better converter my ET would drop for sure.

We have a simular combo. Mine is all stock engine, radar ultimate, 36 lb injectors & a modded 20G turbo 12 cm housing. I did not have the turbine wheel clipped though, I was worried ,,& did not want the boost to come in later. 2100 stall is just a bit too tight for my set-up, it's totally drivable, just a bit slow to spool when brake boosting.
Maybe a 3" DP would help w/spool-up instead of my stock DP?

Re: Audi TT Gets Owned

Supposed to start the switch to 59 after the first of the year with the help of Big Mike. My converter is stock and with the 20g, it still spools up ok. I can build 10 lbs with no problem. The downpipe and gutted cat made a huge difference. Maybe later on I will consider a 26-2800 stall, but still kicking ass with the stock one.

A friend of mine and I spent all day on 20th Dec taking out his TC and replacing it. He went from a dog of a truck, with the 20G, to spinning all 4 wheels with 18 psi from a launch.

I could hardly believe the difference. That was with a Hughes 3000 stall. I think that is a little high so 2500-2800 would be perfect.

Just throwing that out there - if you were in any doubt, get the TC!

Good luck!

A little bit of converter goes a long way in these trucks. Especially when the turbo has been upgraded. Well worth the time and money

Re: Audi TT Gets Owned

TT's are always fun. Never had any trouble with them even when I was stock. Except for one time I went through some turns with one, even then I started reeling him in pretty fast once we hit a straight road. Nice kill.

Re: Audi TT Gets Owned

I'm not sure about a 2400. From what I have read on this forum, a 2800 is what everyone talks about when using a 20g. I'm sure I will get some feed back from some of the experienced members on this forum. I just want to go 11.99. It might be possible with my stock tc if I get the boost cranked up to around 24-26 lbs.

Re: Audi TT Gets Owned

Stalled automatics are awesome!! I had a Yank 3600SS in my 98 Trans Am and it was a night and day difference from stock to that with the cam I had.
I will be using a Yank for this truck as well when I decide what the heck I will be doing with it. They are a tight stall (2.5str) so when it says 3600rpm it really is 3600rpm unlike some of the TCI converters that stall higher then what they say they are. TCI is still a good converter though just have to keep in mind what stall speed you want to stay in and keep in account the actual stall speed that that particular stall work at. I had a Pro Torque 2800 converter prior but the Yank converter was much better.
Seeing that stock peak torque in these trucks comes in at 3600 rpm a 3000rpm converter should be a good performing converter depending on the quality of the converter, even on a stock truck. This is all in theory though, please someone with more experience on these trucks would be welcome to chime in at this point!! I am just going by the rule of 500-750 below peak torque rpm output. It did work in my Trans Am but this is a different vehicle.

Re: Audi TT Gets Owned

You are mainly looking at match the TC with the turbo.. The 2800-3000 stall seems to be the most popular on here for most peoples setups. I was mainly looking at using my B&M Holeshot 2400 with the stock turbo...and then using it for a while with a 20g turbo upgrade.
