best staging procedure

So this weekend was my very first time at a tree light, raced at Rock Falls in WI. I mangaged to run two high 13 second and two low 14 sec runs (poor reaction time). My question is this, what is the best way to stage and get your boost up without creeping forward and red lighting. My truck is completley stock and once I get the boost up past 7psi it has a tendancy to creep, I know about the neutral/rev/hold process and it works about 50%of the time but I want it to work 100% of the time. Also it seems like there is not alot of time to do all this by the time the other guy is stagged and the light goes green?
P.S. I also have the rear shoes adjusted up and 4 primary shoes.

Re: best staging procedure

I always ask the guy beside me in the staging lanes if it's okay that I "double bulb" him (i.e. stage while he does his burnout) that way I have plenty of time to go through the whole boost launch procedure. The main thing to worry about is launching it right.I don't even really pay attention to the tree when I'm at test & tune.

When I'm bracket racing,I throw it in neutral and coasts up to the tree to stage.Still doesn't leave much time though.

what I do is give it a good rev in neutral in the staging lanes right before I go to the tree, never had any problems with boost limit doing that.

well for rock falls, anything over 5 lbs and i spin mad, the track prep sucks, they call it slippery rock, lol, but all i did was every time they went to do thier burnout go around the burnout box and just stage the line, the staging guys dont mind at all you just have to let them know. Where you from btw? i try to get to the rock a couple times a year even thought the track is not the best.

all you need is a vacuum pump. we used to have this problem too

Stab it and steer it
Re: best staging procedure

Here’s what I do based on what’s already been mentioned:

Get to the tree first if possible.

Pre Stage then Stage, hold the brake hard.

Quickly shift to neutral, stab it to 3000-4000 and immediately let up to build additional vacuum, you’ll feel the brake pedal go down some more.

Pull the shifter into OD then press the button and pull one more click for drive (for me this avoids going one click to far)

By now the tree will start so be ready, build boost on the first amber

GO when the third amber comes on. (That’s when the RT timer starts.)

Practice, practice, practice...

If test and tune (practice runs) don’t be to concerned with red lights just go.

If bracket racing and you’re the quicker car you have to learn to “race the tree/track” NOT the other car at the starting line. On the other end you can get fancy and brake, or let up, if you’re ahead so you don’t “break out”. This comes with practice though. Start with learning the tree and launching. Look at your RT and 60’ times. When they’re good you’re good.
