Full frame off resto

Yeah its been alot of fun and how time has flown, I have a hard time believing it's been at the old man's house for 4 years now in some form of disassembly.

The project end is definitely in sight and to say im excited would be a huge understatement!

I've begun the installation of the interior panels. All of them throughly scrubbed cleaned, power washed, and/or repaired.

I repainted most of the interior panels and they turned out great but as you can clearly see, the center console does not match the padded top. When I color matched the rear panels, it seamed to match almost perfect. Anyways, problem for another day. Its in, shifter works and so do the 2 bulbs.
The "gap panel?" In the back was bit of a pain in the ass, just couldn't find the original holes but that's in as well. Atleast it's all like new and smells clean. The leather is all good as well. No cracks or splits.

It's Friday afternoon and I'm just getting everything ready to go and work on the truck tomorrow. I try to load everything into the van the night before so come morning I can just hop in and go.

Been waiting few weeks for my rims to be refinished along with new tires. I love the look of the originals but are no longer manufactured, so I got a set of Firestone Indy 500's. Man do they look good. I'll be posting pictures this weekend of them on the truck.

Sorry, above I was saying, chemical stripping and straighten (they weren't too bad, dented outer rim bead mostly)
A process called diamond cutting was done on the rim front face. Then all masked off and power coated gray on back side and between the spokes. The rim outer lip and center caps were polished by hand then all of it power coated in clear and baked on.

I thought it was wise to have the same dudes put the wheels on and they even come with one year warranty. I didn't really think they looked that bad when I brought them in, and it definitely wasn't cheep but they look great and I'm happy with the outcome.

Hey guys, been a long time.

My apologies, my last post above was 7 months ago. As usual, I put the truck away for.the winter, I'm just too busy at work.

Just after Christmas, two guys at work passed away one week apart. One of them was a long time close friend and business partner of almost ten years. The other - also a friend and the company service manger. Life has been insane. I look 3 yrs older.

After a few months , Garage time has been the only thing I've been able to forward to.

- last summer I ordered the stainless steel cat back exhaust system from Sportmachines. It's real nice. Quality welds and polished muffler.

So I've layed out the new exhaust on the bench (picture above) to check the assembly and my first attempt at installation.

I couldn't find the original hangers - must have been tossed out by previous owner. I picked up some stainless 3/8 rod, some 1/8 × 2inch bar to make my own copies of the hangers. I got to work on a shop made bender and so far, they have come out nice. The exhaust piping is currently on the truck but only bolted to the cat.

Another thing, couldn't get the timing set correctly. Will only run when timing was advanced about 12°. I picked up a new harmonic balancer and instead of replacing the ignition module, I purchased the very last AC Delco distributor in the country. (Came with ignition module) That went together well. Now the timing is set at 0° TDC and truck runs well. I'm planing on completing the exhaust system this weekend and will upload pictures of it complete

Hey guys,

Up early to get started on the truck. Getting very close.

Previously during the week, I put the truck up on axle stands so I could get under and complete the exhaust system installation

I had fabricated some hangers based on pictures I could find online. Due to pervious owner exhaust work, my original hangera were gone. Once under the truck, I fabricated some differnt mounts (out of stainless steel) that look good and work well. Hard to see the middle hanger so I added a red arrow to point it out.

Dropped the truck onto the pavement and rolled outside. I may not have said before but was having a problem with the upgraded racetronix fuel pump wiring upgrade. Found the fuse holder "tangs" a bit loose causing poor connection and thus no 12VDC on new wire harness. This was easy fix. Maybe the cause of poor engine running. Could also have been the old distributor or harmonic balancer, both which have also been replaced. I also installed new LED head lights new intercooler pump and tailgate.

Was a great day, got alot of things finnished off and the truck is running well and looking good.

Till next time

gmemony2,

It's too bad you can't see in person,
the truck is so clean and new. Im very happy with how the fan looks and works. It's a two speeder, high speed comes on when ac compressor is engaged. This unit and controller from Jegs. Although I was going to use the original fan, once I installed the upgraded motor mounts (pictured in this thread somewhere previous) the engine block sits about 1 inch lower. The original fan blade would touch the fan shroud and an electric was required.

I've also got out the front bumper striped down and the metal portion painted, the grill apart and the hood out. All have since been throughly washed. Starting to prepare for its paint job

More to follow tomorrow.

Hey guys,

Perfect day for working on the truck. Bit cloudy, slight breeze and about 16.0C / 61.0F outside.

The mice had eaten away the hoodliner so that was carefully removed and then the hood bolted on. I've ordered a replacement hoodliner from Duque Hoodliner Productions along with the typhoon decal and hood pins. After paint, I will install this.

I've bolted on the rear bumper, tailgate spring support, the rear back glass, ground straps and passenger side window motor. The driver side window motor was faulty and when I ordered a replacement, the shipment came with both sides. I changed the passenger side as it was much slower then the new diver side. I have passenger side bit out of sinc as the window won't fully lower down. Not huge deal but I have to remove the motor and reposition the window arm.

Then the all important drive around the block. God dam I forgot how much I like driving this thing. Now I didn't go too far, front end not aligned yet but that comming this week. Want to make sure the truck runs reliable before Dad takes it over during the week.

I've brought a few more parts home to sandblast and paint. Probably work on that this evening.

So I brought home the fog light assemblies. We took em out of the front bumper and they were in pretty rough shape. I thought a good sand blasting and paint would make them look new.

Disassembled and blasted the light buckets/housings and the metal mounts. Broke one of the pivot bolts and ofcouse I dropped one of the glas lenses into the sink, smashing it. DAM!

Anyways, the lenses for these are pretty standard and I pick up a pair of fog lights in the clearance section at crappy tire for $20. Cheep chrome ones but this gave me new glasses lenses (crystal clear), new relectors and new bulbs. I've already ordered LED bulbs but after blasting, painting and reassembly - they look new.

Here they are finnished off.

Long weekend comming up and I've taken Friday off (May 17). I'll be working on removing the cladding for paint. I've also acquired the recommended lord fusor glue and reinforcement mesh to fix the cladding tabs and a Crack on the passenger side. Hope to upload those pics on the weekend comming up.

They used to sell these at harbor freight but don't anymore. What is "crappy tire" and the part numbers? 😂 I'm not sure if I have them in my area but I'd like to pick up a new set of lenses.

Hey gmemony2

Lol - crappy tire is actually Canadian Tire. They have autoparts, hardware, tools, sports, hunting/fishing and houseware depts. Most also have full service auto repair. Their part number is 20-3758-2, but that probably won't help you. I found mine buy Googleing the number on the lens itself (my old ones that were previously changed) and it lead me to Canadian tire. 5 mins away from my place.

Hey,

It's a long weekend up here in the North. So I took today off (Friday) to make extra long weekend. I headed over to old dads this moring to get started.

Hoped into the truck and pulled outa the garage. I wanted to get the remaining body cladding off to prep for paint. The rivets aren't too hard to drill if you have a good sharp one. Didn't take long and it was all off.

Been having issue with the intercooler pump. I have upgraded sportmachines bottom intercooler, fan and now the Johnsons pump. Had together last weekend but didn't seem to work. Found missing fuse on the large red wire at the alternator. Now that's all working. But now the truck won't start. Dam. Messed around with the timing a bit but after putting on the timing light, discovered no spark. ? Anyways, quickly traced back to poped fuse for the ecu. Changed out and truck fired right up.

Drove it over to get bolts, hit the liquor store for tonight and over to the gas station for some sunoco 94. While there, some old bird who probably shouldn't have been driving, ran into the back of the truck while I was pumping gas. God damit. No damage really. No cladding but bent the rear steel bumper a bit. Nothing i cant fix but for christ sakes.

Been a long time since this truck has been driven anywhere. Got a HUGE smile today.

I'll have to take differnt pics. Mine to large to upload.

Anyways, till next time guys.
