Mistery turbo

I just got this thing for cheap due to blown impeller. Any ideas of what it could be? I know. Open it up and measure. It's on it's way to me. Just thought I'd ask.

Guy called it a 6266. Maybe that one? Fingers crossed cause it was only couple a hunnies. The impeller was possibly hit by a rock. Dude didn't have a filter or cover on it.

Looks like a T3 AR 63 V Band out turbo. Could be a T4 Flange but hard to tell until you do some measuring.

Talked to the local turbo builder. I learned quite a bit. DO NOT BUY PRECISION TURBOS. This will save you lots of money, time and headaches. Turns out they build disposable products. This means the turbo is obsolete in a matter of two years or less. they are put together with Garrett and Turbonetics parts! The wheels are probably Chinese. Seems it's just a storefront that sells others company's products. Sounds like the only thing they own is the name. I wish I knew all this before getting this paper weight. CX Racing is looking good at this point. Rats!

Don't throw it in the trash just yet. What you have is just the opinion of one builder. I'm sure the next one you talk to may have a different opinion as well. I have ran a Precision built turbo on my Buick for years with no issues. If you want to talk about cheap turbos, I ran an E-bay Chinese 16G turbo on my DSM Laser. It was a $238 turbo that I put on the car when I was troubleshooting it just to get the car running. I ended up liking it so much that I kept it on the car when it was my daily driver. I ran it for almost 3 years with mild boost (@17 psi) and it never missed a beat. It was still running strong when I sold the car. Point is, you're the only one who matters in saying how good of a deal you got. If you think it's worth taking a chance on the rebuild cost, it may surprise you and be one of the best turbos you ever had, Chinese wheel or not.

Thats good to hear about your experience.

I've read and talked to other builders. Same story. There isn't any support after the sale to the end user. When the turbo is a couple of years old, Precision tells you to just buy the "new and improved" version. I think for the 5557 is now 5558? Dumb.

Alright guy and gals, I have found out the following... this pte5557 turbo uses the Garrett GT3076R cartridge. I'm getting rid of the precision compressor housing and replacing it with a garret compressor kit.

Nice . Send it to Precision and see if they can rebuild it . Looks like a PT54-58 to me
Precision wants me to buy their new and improved version pte5558, I believe, because this one has been deemed obsolete by them!

Interesting. I have installed prob a hundred Turbonetics turbos over the years and just as many PTE turbos.
