I got this DIPSHIT at work who seems to think his brand new $41k f150 twinturbo V6 will spank my sy! Will he is my boss so he must be right ! What ya think :rant: { I kno its not a kill story yet but its a pretty good bet}

I have both. Jeff is exactly right. Unless your Sy is a basket case it won't be a problem. They're like 15.0 trucks from the factory and the traction control will only make that worse on the street.

I race with one of those on Wed nights. Brand new. (The alum body.) Although I'm not a Ford fan it's a nice truck. He's waiting for a chip but currently run's low 14s. He'll probably dip into the 13s when his chip gets here. Lot of performance there but no Syclone. I'd guess even a bone stock Sy could beat him but with a chip he might make a race out of it. Keep us posted.

I hope you do decide to show him what's up. I'm at my buddy's now who eats/sleeps/breathes FORD. He just got done asking me how my typhoon is running and I told him it's good aside from me getting romped on this morning by a BMW street bike. Right away... Your truck is no way faster than a bike. This...that.. Ford.. Ford..Ford. Go for a eco boost kill.

Re: SYCLONE vs echoboost

The Ecoboosts are impressive but the poor things are hurling how much tonnage down the road?

Can you imagine what one would do in a mid-size (Dakota size) or compact truck (RIP Ranger :()?
Yes, it'd be a tire-fryer but modern electronics/traction control could help.

I'm still a little baffled why Ford would go so hyper-techno on a TRUCK application.
Don't you all agree?
Folks will be singing the blues when those beauties start getting big miles on them and need major repairs (i.e.turbo's, engines need freshening or replacing, etc.) $$$$$
Sorry to ramble.

I agree with this. Ive been in the market for one of these trucks as I need a 4 door vehicle. I would rather have the V8 5.0 rather than have the v6 with the marginal better fuel economy. I think cost of repairs long term is going to significantly affect the resale value also.

Yup. A friend has a 2014 with the V8. He oped for it for just that reason among others. We used it to tow the Sy to the Mojave Mile last year and I was impressed. Plenty of power and a real nice sound when you put your foot in it. I wonder what the V8 with a chip would do?

I know a few people with ecoboost trucks that traded them in because the fuel economy was worse than their old V8 trucks. They get great fuel economy when your not towing, hauling anything in the bed, and you stay out of boost- but then whats the fun in that?

once you start producing boost they drink more fuel than the 5.0 trucks

That's funny because a ecoboost pulled up next to me at a stoplight one day and kinda looked over at me like he thought his truck was badass. I wasn't sure if he wanted to race so I let the light turn green and took off not to slow but with some gas. Then I heard him get on it and so did I. Need else to say I left him and got ahead of him about 3 car lengths or so. Surprised the crap out if him

Re: SYCLONE vs echoboost

I love my 2012 f150 5.0L. Has been flawless so far. Fuel mileage is decent for a v8 truck. A stock sy should have no problem with a ecoboost f150
