Pulling Codes

New and loving it!
Hey Everyone. Call me silly but what is the best way to pull codes from the ECU? I read a bunch and I think I might be overboosting but want to check (Top end it feels like fuel cut)

I know most like datamaster but is that the only way? or is there a "jumper" way to check the SES light flashes?
