Anyone ever see someone hook up coolant lines to throttle body!

Well Guys,

I'm working on a car right now and trying to figure some issues out about the truck and make it run right. I pull off the intercooler and the intercooler is hooked up to the back of the throttle body, which otherside of throttle body goes to heater core, other heater core goes to johnsone pump on intercooler and then other side of pump goes back to top of intercooler. and upper intake goes top of radiator heater core nipple.

#$*&@#$@#@ I was like what the hell is going on here @#%#@*@$#

I can only image what else lies in front of me with this truck.

Just a question. I have never seen anyone on our trucks have these hooked up.

reminds me of the pic of the guy that had his AC in the car going forward to the intercooler :)

Atleast he didn't have it hookup to the engine cooling system.

The corvettes that we stole our throttle bodies from ran engine coolant through the port on the underside of the TB to keep the butterflys from freezing open. I think.

Yep, someone was trying to get more cooling via heater core. Wonder how it worked out, also wonder how the defrost worked on cold days.

1st off i would think that your heater wouldn't get that hot. Since it really isn't at the temp of the engine. Might get 100 degrees but would be 160-180 during the winter yea you would be hurting for some warmth.

I am fixing all the issue from the motor swap in the truck and 1 is the IAC and that could be the issue with the throttle body getting fluid through it.

Well gonna dig in deeper this afternoon and see what i find.

Thanks

I thought the idea was to cool the intake charge, not warm up the throttle body with hot water flowing through the intercooler! I guess it would work well in the winter for those cold days in nj..... Lol

100% correct, the TBI/LT1 throttle bodies had coolant hoses running underneath the throttle blades, not to cool the intake charge, but to warm thr throttle body to prevent freezing. A popular LT1 mod is to remove the lines, and bypass the TB for a cooler air charge.

I think gmhtp did a article on that. Its on the list of "free mods" for ls1's. Said it gained 10hp on the dyno buy bypassing it.

I'd hate to see what would happen if the heater core busted like they all do on that truck your working on lol..

I ran my truck for a while with the intercooler plumbed thru the heater core. Dunno if it helped performance, but it definitely produced no heat in the winter. I switched the heater core back to heating and added aux heat exchangers in front of the radiator.

I think the (faulty) thinking of the day was that you could use your AC to pre-cool the heater core before a run and have added charge cooling. Unfortunately the airflow in the mixer plenum doesn't work that way.

Hey, we was all learnin' back then.
