Replacement Fuel Lines

Well a seemingly easy job of replacing the fuel filter was made difficult by our friend "rust" :rotf:

The flare fittings were so badly rusted to the fuel lines that even after letting them soak in liquid wrench for 24hrs the only thing that happened when I turned them was that the fuel line kinked

So I'm going to have to replace the line from the tank to the fuel filter but figured while I'm down there I may as well replace the fuel filter to the rail, return line, and vapor line.

I'm not quite ready to go braided just yet so I found this kit at Jeg's.

Would this work ok? I have a flare tool and bender so I should be ok there. Should I get 5/16" or 3/8"? Also are there some some funky fittings on top of the tank I should be aware of? I'm guessing 25' wont do all the lines so I will need 2 "kits"??

Or is this a bad idea?

Re: Replacement Fuel Lines

i wouldn't even bother with hardline. Get some steel braided hose with the correct an-metric adaptor fittings and call it a day. probably not the cheapest route, but it will save you a couple hours on install and be much easier to remove in the future. Got to think what your day is really worth? $10 or $100?

vapor line you could just keep the stock line i'm sure, or bypass it all together. if you need some help, i have some pre-made lines for this.

Re: Replacement Fuel Lines

I have a set of good used ty lines in a box I believe (if I didn't get rid of them) I would sell you for enough to cover shipping/gas to get there. They were already in a box, came off my personal ty.

Re: Replacement Fuel Lines

Yea Dave the more I thought it about last night the more I began to think I would probably be biting off more than I could chew. The only line that NEEDS replaced is the tank to fuel filter since it's now kinked. If I try to "unkink" it I'm positive it will break. And good to know they are not flare fittings. Thanks

keep in mind that braided line runs around $5.25 a foot. Plus fittings..
