Re: IPOD hookup

I got an adapter that plugs into cigarette lighter (set it to an open fm station). Plays IPOD,ZUNE, SANSA CLIP,cheap dollar store mp3 players, almost aything that a set of headphones will pull into. Portable. In the TY Panasonic with usb plug and IPOD connector in head unit. Hours of music on my jump drive one less thing to break.

I have the same one but its on its way out. Second one i had in three years. They work great but i rather have the hookups direct if that is possible.

We have one of those, but it works like garbage around here. There aren't enough "open fm" frequencies to pick from. We always get skip from a close by station.

I just wanted to know if anyone ever used these ipod hookups to stock radio. Im trying to install this in my 2002 tahoe and my wifes 04 lexus gx 470.

thanks

That's pretty sweet. If you get it, let me know how it works. I'd love to add one to my wife's Jimmy.

Re: IPOD hookup

Vinny TY is this a splice into factory harness?

Yes i want it to split into the factory harness. I actually was told there is no cutting the original harness at all the aftermarket harness they supply will have the correct ends. I hope this is correct.

Thats cool ! My dash in the Mazda 6 is one big radio. Factory Bose, components are hidden through out vehicle. Great sound reproduction, well laid out for a factory set up.Turns itself up and down based on wind noise or incoming phone calls.

Re: IPOD hookup

The one I have in the Wrangler piggybacks on the antenna - posted above. It doesn't transmit over the air like the fm modulators.

I also have one in the TBSS that plugs into the factory harness. What I like better about the wrangler one is you navigate your playlists from the iPod. The TBSS one you must use steering wheel/headunit controls. Playlist navigation is weird.

Re: IPOD hookup

Hey Guys,
Yeah, the Peripherals ones are badass. I have one in my 04 Grand Cherokee(daily driver). Best Buy stocks this for GM, Ford, and Imports. Of course I work there and the Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep one we don't carry, so I had to get it online. It's sweet. Unplug the factory CD changer, and this plugs in it's place. So I can control me ipod with the stock stereo, and I can use my steering wheel controls. It was a 15minute install and works awesome!!!!

If you want a super clean install, get a Bracketron bracket. They make them for TONS of cars, and they bolt right on. I also used this on my jeep, and love it. It looks great!

Hey Vinnie,
On your 2002 Tahoe you'll have to go with an 'aux input' interface... this will get the audio directly into the system via a T-harness at the back of the radio.... you can't directly control the iPods in GM's until you get into the 2003 model year. You can get a 2003 radio out of another Tahoe or Suburban and put in your '02, then you have full control... only problem is every time you turn on the radio it will display 'cal error' for a few seconds... this is how I have my '02 Olds Bravada set up.
The Lexus is no problem... directlly plug and play with full iPod functionality and control on that one..... go to www.soundgate.com and you can get everything there.
Yup, I started SoundGate back in '96 and sold it to Kicker in 2006... all of my guys are still there at Kicker doing a great job.... you can also find all the parts you need at www.logjamelectronics.com ....Logjam has the biggest, and best, selection of interfaces of anyone and the prices are good.
For all you guys looking to mount an iPod, Zune, or whatever in your car, here is the BEST mount I have ever seen.... looks cool, works great... http://www.logjamelectronics.com/soundm2.html

Wyo - I GREATLY appreciate all the help but this is confusing for me. Example....one page will say it will fit to my lexus which is the truck that is important to me to get this installed and then one page will say that i need to get another device. Is there a way that i can call you to talk? If not just tell me what i need to get. The truck is a 2004 lexus gx470 with nav. If i can use the nav to navigate the IPOD that would be great if not and i need to navigate through the ipod then thats fine as well.

Once again thanks so much for all the help.

No prob Vinnie....
LEXPD2 is the part you need for the Lexus.... it will allow you to completely control the iPOD via the Nav screen and/or steering wheel controls and will display your playlists and song info on the screen. All factory options will be retained. I've got to get up to the hospital to see my wife's Dad, but shoot me a PM and we can talk later in the day...

Thanks so much for all your help.

Re: IPOD hookup

Just thought i update this thread...

I installed the LEXPD2 in my wifes lexus GX470 and WOW was she happy!!!!

This unit is outstanding. Works with the nav unit and my wife loves it. I left the ipod in the glove box wrapped in its rubbber cover easy to access if necessary.

Thanks to all and a big thanks to WyoSyclone for all the help!!!!!!!!:rock:
