prolly get hell for postin this, but i haven't seen morgan on the forum in a long time:lol:.
i really want to do this duramax swap in the sy. so i found a company in texas that can do the shipping, but does anyone over here has good sites were i can buy a salvage duramax from an insuranc company>?

Best bet is to find out if there are any car dealers willing to snag you one at auction./ The problem with your request is that the Duramax is seen as valuable and when one is totaled you can bet it will go straight to auction, not the junkyard. At least that's how it would work in CO.

I can get you one if you want I have a couple that need rebuilt if you want one I can probably get the core for 500-750ish.

One has a broken camshaft and some bent push rods (I dotn know if the valves are hurt I have had some cummins that will bent push rods and not hurt the vavles) and the other has a couple of warped heads.

I can see what my salvage has or can get. I am in Oklahoma and would be willing to road trip one to texas for you. These would be used take out engines out of wrecked trucks

i have seen some trucks on craiglist for around 7k with no damage at all, the milage was around 200k, the big advantage of using a parts truck is i think i got's the complete wiring etc.
i think a wrecked truck would be around 4-5k considering the 7k you pay for a highmilage known good truck. but that's me.
as far as the milage i don't really care, if it's gonna blow, it will blow. and than i can always rebuild it.

yeah trying to squeeze the allsion under there a well. it's a syclone to it's easier to modify and take the cab on and off

Get the vins before you purchase if you can. One of us will run it in the gm service database and hopefully we can find one GM upgraded the injectors to the later model style.


Having remapped about 400 dmax's, I'd look for an 02-03. They run off-road diesel :D and last alot longer. This may not be the case for everyone, but just what I've seen around here.

While you got the allison out, go for the shift kit. It takes forever to install, but It'll stay together alot longer. $200 for the trans go and a few hours is alot better than 5-7k for a new suncoast.


For anyone looking for a new DMAX, get em now!!! GM has 60-71 days inventory for both GM and GMC diesels. GM is shutting down production from December to March/April to recalibrate the 6.6 for UREA and new emissions.

Buy one wrecked, you'll end up getting one needing not much with tons of miles and you'll end up keeping it:lol:
