muffler suggestions

Ok, end of october is rapidly approaching, so i need to PA legalize the twin turbo typhoon...which means adding mufflers to it. It has 2.5" exhaust pipes on it right now, so i've been looking at simple 2.5" in/outlet mufflers that i can just weld in line.

I don't want glasspacks, cherry bombs, etc. I just want a simple clean looking round (i think i can go up to 4" max for the casing - has to fit between the frame rail and the cladding...and not just melt the cladding away.

Suggestions? I'm eyeing up some dynomax's in the $50/ea range...but curious what others may suggest.

Re: muffler suggestions

I have the magnaflows, which as you stated when you rode in my truck are a bit loud but I think it is mainly due to my exits being under truck, not out of truck. Your exhaust run outside frame rails is a lot closer to getting out from under truck hence why your truck seemed much quieter.

Re: muffler suggestions

I have the Aeroturbine on my TBSS and it sounds sweet, I'd recommend it for any LSX.. the 'XL' models are a bit quieter than the non XL models.

I'll have to take a closer look tomorrow when I drive it to work....I can't remember right now.

It's not too bad whatsoever. I have mine angle-cut outward and wrapped for heat. Not that you had the time, but it was that way at Nats.

Re: muffler suggestions

Do you want it quieter or just visual to pass inspection? You could always find some cheap small resinators or hollow out cheap glasspacks. Most straight through mufflers are just a form of a glasspack anyways. The aero turbine may not be what you want, I think they are a velocity helping style, might be wrong though. If it were me and I was doing just to pass, a cheap ass small body glass pack would be my first choice. :2cents: And you could V band clamp it for removal whenever you want to.

Re: muffler suggestions

i'll only do cutouts if mufflers really hamper performance...but at my small power levels i doubt it'd make a big difference anyway - so to me its money wasted.

As far as wanting it quieter or not...i wouldn't hate if it were quieter. It sounds good/mean...but when driving any sort of distance it gets a little old. On the trip to NATS, Jen and I were having a hard time hearing the movies we were watching. It wasn't too loud for her to sleep for many hours though.

Re: muffler suggestions

honestly for any turbo car i would recommend a bullet type muffler, turbos do quiet the exhuast alot also. i would have gone with some bullets on my GTO but i couldnt find any in full catback form so i just went with some spintech super prostreets :)
