Flaming river powerst.box - the most precise one?

Hey all!

I am in progress getting new parts for the steering of my Sy dragcar build.

I have allready ordered all steering parts.
Only thing missing is the gearbx.

I hate the loose, unprecise feeling of the steering.
Would be dangerous on a high speed high hp SY at the track.

Although that may be better with new steering parts,
I though about upgrading the gearbox, too.

I am thinking about that flaming river gearbox.

I don´t mind about it costing a lot.
If it´s the best option, I´ll get it.
I just want the most precise steering I can get.
And flaming rives say it feels like a rack and pinion ....and should be very precise.

I just want to know if anyone has experience with it....maybe even on a SY.
Does it really fit without any mods to the car?
Any clearance issues?

Also, what ratio should I go with?
12:1?

And does anyone know if the RPM low profile steering shaft
that I have laying around would still fit?

I would need that shaft for better clearance on my LSX swap.

You definately want the 12:1 ratio. A constant ratio 12:1 box from a WS6 f-body or Monte SS is just as good as far as quickness and will bolt right in. I'm not sure how the F.R.'s "rack and pinion valve spool" would affect feel. The 3/4-30 input shaft splines are the same as the stock S10 box so the RPM shaft should fit.

I tried one of those.
Made it around the block before I lost 1/2 of the fluid in the reservoir.
Made in Mexico?
I don't think it helped over the ZQ8. Would have liked to try it out on the highway.
I returned the steering box and gave up the 9.5" wide tires up front.
I have 17 X 8.5" and its a lot better.

Why not put a manual box in?

I would put in whatever is plug and play and gives me the most precise steering.

Haven´t found too much info on manual gearboxes in Syclones though.
