I have a question for u guys and am sure u have probably already answered it somewhere. I have a 86 s10 2wd and am buying a 92 awd bravada....now is it possible to do the conversion on to the 2wd truck or just find a 4x4 truck and go that route? I do have a shop and alot of skills in auto work so the extra work wouldn't be all that hard for me. Anything i should keep a extra eye on to make sure everything goes smoothly...? Thanks guys!

go with a 4x4 frame, it doesn't make sense to go through the ridiculous amount of work that would be required to convert a 2x4 frame to 4x4. they are completely different frames up front.

Frame swap is the most efficient answer.

The entire front suspension / front of the frame from the cab forward is different. Nothing interchanges.

Not sure if the Blazer (Bravada) chassis is the same as the pickup chassis. Maybe somebody else knows.

I believe the truck body is different, too. I remember reading 4wd/awd cabs have a different floor pan than 2wds, although that could be fixed with some cutting/welding.

Re: 2wd s10 to awd...?

the frames are the same with the exception of Blazers/Bravadas normally have Z'd rear ends. What this means is that you can't air bag the rear of them as easy as you would a regular truck frame. Just start out with a good 4x4 frame & setup, could always cut the front AWD Bravada frame @ the seams & weld it to the rear of a 2wd drive truck frame to make a Syclone .... just use the 4x4/AWD axle as well. Eventually I'm going to do this but I don't already have the AWD Bravada or Astro parts I need .... just a 4x4 frame with differentials.

Frames are not the same. They are very different in the front.

so this info by Myclone isn't right? I thought other than the front differentials, t cases, & the turbo the rest of the truck uses a 4x4 frame & torsion bars .... has 4x4 styled control arms straight out vs angled back like a 2wd frame. Reason I tried helping as I have a couple of 4x4 S15 High Sierra trucks, a 93 4x4 4dr Blazer, a couple 2wd frames & the SoGt.

Re: 2wd s10 to awd...?

I think he meant AWD vs 4X4 frames not vs 2WD... unless I'm wrong with my interpretation

I was thinking he meant AWD vs 4x4 too but I :dunno: .... just thought the AWD/4x4 shared the same frame setups. Anyways .... I shup now before I :hang:

Go the easy route. Just buy a 4x4 truck. There cheap and save on time for whatever else your going to do with it.
