Taylor Wire Quality

I have had a bad wire in two sets of Taylors go bad shortly after installation. One on my truck and one on a friends Ty. Both sets had few miles on them and no burns or cuts. Rest of ignition was stock on both trucks.

Anyone else had any experiences like this?

The Taylors are highly recommended but my Autozone specials are holding up better.

I get about a year of use out of a set of Taylor Spiro Pros. How exactly are yours going bad? There is a not well known problem with them not fully seating on the distributor. Sometimes it is necessary to trim the boot with a razor so it will (less than 1/16" of an inch). Both BG and Myclone have noted this problem in the past. HTH's

ive only had bad luck with the Holleys.

the Taylors I totally like, never had a problem, ive had 2 sets so far, gonna get a 3rd soon.

One on mine had no continuity.
Others had really high resistance like above 5000 ohms. started causing ignition probs.

Normal resistance for good Taylors out of the box is 600-700 ohms except for #1 which was around a 1000

I've bought two sets of Taylor's, one when I ran stock manifolds and one when I went to header's. Many years of use both ways and never a problem.

the best wire out right now is the MSD 8.5. almost 0 resistance.... like 10 omhs per foot.

i don't think the MSD can stand heat as well as any other wire out there

i've seen too many melted sets, or people swapping plugs, and the boots kinda just pull apart due to heat damage

I love my MSD's.

So far so good, no problems with heat damage, even had one against the downpipe for awhile by accident for a few hundred miles.

They fit nice with the stock manifolds, if you get the custom fit set that is.

We use em on the sprinters as well, never once had a problem with them.

Then again, everything aboot my truck is wrong :wink:

the only thing that bothers me is the #6 plug wire. its a little short, and it should have a 45 or 90deg boot. i dont like the straight boot, it makescontact with the DP unless you tie it back. but overall, im really happy with them. mabe i should tell MSD what i think about #6.

Taylor boots suck. Pulled the metal clip out of mine. I just think they are made like crap. Have holley laser now and are great so far.

Weird, I havent had this problem with any of my Taylors. I use a boot puller though, did you?

We custom make wires using the Taylor spiro core bulk wire, and boot ends. We think the wire withstands heat better then any other wire out there, and the boot construction is pretty beefy. We have had good luck with them. As a precautionary measure we also use some fireproof sleeving and trim the distributor boots like mentioned earlier.

MSD would be our second choice.

i bought taylors cuz everyone here raved about them. While installing them i was checking resistance and found one that had no continuity.
Glad i was checking them before they got installed.

My first experience with Taylor Spiro Pros didn't go so well. After countless hours of trying to find a missfire, the cause turned out to be a few metal strands sticking out of the boot. I don't know if this is a common defect though.

FWIW, I've had a set of Taylor 409's on my Syclone for probably longer than a year now. Physically they are in great shape, and really durable. With the ATR headers, I run 90 degree boots at every cylinder, so I'll usually buy a universal V8 set - this way I make my own wire length, and have 2 spares left over. 409's ain't cheap though, but as long as they have lasted for me... might be worth it.

I like these wires, but unfortunately, I am having some knock issues (I'm convinced it's false), so I may yank them to eliminate them as a variable. Damn trucks; we need coil on plug :evil:


Typically, for me at least, the very apparent problems end up being wire or cap/rotor issues. The knock retard ones usually end up being plug related.

That's assuming no real stupid problems exist - cracked plug, .075 gap, wire wrapped around a downpipe, etc.

It wasn't AROUND it - it was just touching it. If you can see the arch going from the wire to the DP - you might have a problem

I don't think you can really go to wrong with the taylors or msd's...Holly's on the other hand you can go major wrong (personal experience)...

one thing to consider is the price of the msd's...are they worth the extra cash over the taylors?

I like the Taylor spiropros and 409s I've never bought the ones for custom apps though so I can't speak on that but the quality on the universal sets is top notch
