Don't laugh ok?

So I got a full tune up and I'm trying to gauge the difference in how the Ty drives, accelerates etc. I got a few good test launches and was very happy with everything. Fast forward a few days and I do another launch just screwing around giving myself a big smile on and there’s a pop and the seat lays back. Now I can’t get the bastard to stay upright. I start checking things out and find that the bolt that holds the reclining handle in place has broken off at the head. To make things worse one of the mounting bolts on the slide rails has broken off from the floor of the truck too. I’m considering what to do about this right now.

In the mean time I’ve jerry rigged it to stay upright so I can drive but I have a dilemma. I’ve been thinking of replacing the seats with something with more lateral support but I have no idea how much the Ty seats weigh. I want something with more support so I’m not sliding around in my chair on corners but I don’t want extra weight. I don’t need power seats for that matter either but like I said, I don’t know how much the Ty seats weigh so I can’t really decide on what kind of seats to replace them with. Does anyone here know how much the Ty seats weigh or know where I can find out?

An easy way is to use a household scale; weigh yourself, the weigh yourself while holding the seat. Do the math and it'll tell you. The seat frame isn't anything except a standard S-10 seat. Find one from a junkyard that has recline on it, take the cover off and foam off using basic hand tools like pliers, a screw driver etc. Once you've taken apart the junkyard seat and have it stripped to the bare frame, you'll know pretty well how to take apart the Ty seat without damaging anything. Remove the Ty seat cover, then foam, then the lumbar hand pump setup....swap it over to the new seat frame, add the pad, add the cover, reinstall the hogrings and what not and off you go.

If you're looking for a PIMP set of stock seats, try to find a 1993-1997 Saab 9000 Aero. Recaro took stock 9000 seats, welded in some stuff, put big bolsters like 90's Vette seats, and they are AWESOME. Comfy and supportive. A nice set can be had for $500 or so; they are heavy as they are full power.

For the broken off bolt; hit it with PB Blaster from top and bottom, let it soak a day, then get on one end with vise grips. Move it back and forth working it out. If that doesn't work, drill it out.

If all else fails...... get a Syclone! you don't have to worry about breaking seat backs. Seriously, you should be able to use a seat frame from the blazers.
