What is the widest rear wheel/tire combination you have seen on a non tubbed SyTy? Without it rubbing of course. I saw a post a while back that the guy had like a 15" super wide back tire on, but if I remember right I think that was a tube frame and I would bet the truck bed was tubbed......Just wondering, looking to go wide on my truck, without modding the frame and bed.. :tup:

Im running a 335 on a 17x12 Zr1, no modding needed...........

335 fit fine bob bigtime has them on his ty with a 17x11 look good and no rub. i am sure he has a pic or two on his site

Wow, if so that's farther off then I want to be,


335/35-17 = 26.2in

275/40-17 = 25.7in

it does not make that big of a difference. bob has been that way for a very long time as have many others. i am sure unless you check your air pressure every week and tread depth monthly you arew that far off any way.

I wonder if 1/2" diameter difference is THAT bad? I have never seen a T case tore up because of tire diameter size....I know that it can/will but what can you get away with, I wonder?

The shop I used to work at, I personally saw them buy 3 Subaru's either a transmission or a transfer case ( don't know how they're setup ) because of a somone installing only one new tire. After we contacted Subaru directly about this they said you need to be within something crazy like less then 1% or less then a 1/32 of an inch of tread rubber on ALL four tires. Now that can change with a difference in air pressure, so who knows.

WOW, that's like the size of a mosquito pecker :rotf: But now that you mention it WAY back in the day when I was going to tech school I kind of remember that measurement. Now that's a bunch of engineers making those "rules" :roll: I still wonder what the real world measurements are...

I used to work at a subaru dealership. Most likely tranny damage was not because of the tire, but due to reving to 5k and dropping the clutch. Many people used to take their cars and say i don't know what happened? Yeah right. Too bad your shop was the one that had to pay the bill. The suby dealership got fed up with people coming in and doing that. They put a stop to that Quickly.

I wonder if driving on a stock set of C5 wheels and tires would destroy my transfer case under "normal" conditions......no brake boost launches or anything to that nature.
