Belltech 3" lowered leafs raised my truck... WTF?

I know that they need to settle... but come on...

I just removed the stock leaf, stock shock and 3" block and put in a Belltech 3" drop spring, Bilstien shock...

It raised the back. I have a 8" wheel gap from tire to truck. 245/45/17 tires on a Jimmy... 8" wheel gap is like a lifted 4x4.

Mind you the truck is stripped. no glass, no interior, just a shell... but 8"??? lol

Anyone know anything about this?

Im putting money on the crappy Bilstien shocks doing it. There have been numerous posts from Syclone owners over the years who claim the back of their trucks were raised with the installation of just the Bilstien shocks only.

Im putting money on the crappy Bilstien shocks doing it. There have been numerous posts from Syclone owners over the years who claim the back of their trucks were raised with the installation of just the Bilstien shocks only.

i put bilsteins on my ty , didnt affect ride height. just disconnect the lower shock mount, if its the shocks it'll drop. but i doubt it ,other than air shocks or coil overs i've never seen a pair of shocks change ride height.

Yes they are correct...

On the bottom is the stock 1985 GMC Jimmy 4x4 leaf

that stock leaf spring doesnt look stock...looks like a few leafs have been removed. I know my stock springs have more leafs then that.

And in the last pic with the new springs labeled liftkit...I see a jack stand under the truck...how about a pic without being on jacks

YES I took out the jackstand!

I took those pics when i did the back end. Im at home and my truck is at the shop so I cant do an update now. I put it on the ground Dec 22nd and I went today and it didnt "settle" at all

Yes they are correct...

It will settle some (you have to drive it...it wont settle just sitting there) and for a little more drop take the very top/stupid short leaf out since it'll give you another 1/4" of drop. Putting the interior back in will make some difference too...you would be amazed at how light a gutted blazer body is without the interior (I parted one out and loaded the empty shell onto my truck by myself...Im old, fat, and out of shape so it couldnt have been too heavy).

I have that same light. Handy lil bastard isnt it? The metal wire hook for hanging it is a PIA though.

Yeah the hook is handy on the light sometimes but other times I want to kill it!!!

I just removed the one on mine. It was a PITA trying to get it into the tight spaces when doing motor mounts.

BTW, did you tighten the bolts in the spring shackles before you put weight on the springs? If you threw the impact wrench on them with the suspension at full droop that would be part of the problem (driving it will settle the springs but it looks like it may be a few days/weeks before you get to drive it). If you tightened them before putting weight on the springs then just jack the rear up by putting the jack under the center of the diff and then back all of the nuts on the shackles a few threads then re-tighten.

I have the craftsman version of that light... it has a removable magnet on the center, really nice to have :tup: .
Oh, and Shuggs, it took my truck about 2 weeks of driving for the rear end (flexaforms) to settle down
