Cutting or removing seals around the glass??

I need to do some work around the windshield and side glasses on the project Ty but I'm not ready to actully pull the glass out yet. It looks like to me that the "trim mouldings" could be cut and removed with out actually cutting the adhesive that holds the glass in place?

Am I correct that this can be done / just remove the black rubber moulding and leave the glass in place? George.... I know you just had a bout with this on your Ty, what do you think?

Thanks!

i work at an autoglass shop so i cut/trim mouldings all day. you can cut the mouldings away without penetrating the urethane bead...but you wont be able to completely remove them. Why are you wanting to cut the moulding off?

I want to check under the rubber and around the glass for rust but even if I do find it, I'm not ready to cut the glass out yet 9would need time to plan and arrange the rust removal / repaint if so).

If there is no rust I need to replace the rubber anyway cause it's cracked and dry rotted (was in storage a long time). Why can't the rubber be completly removed? If that's the case, then your telling me it can't be replaced without pulling the glass?

The rubber trim is set into the urethane. It basically gets installed on the glass and then is pressed down into a bed of urethane. Wait until your ready to paint because there will be pockets of rust to contend with. I'd be shocked if there wasn't.

Thanks George! That clears it up a little better but does the rubber moulding actually have a channel / groove the glass fits into all the way around it or does it just press down in the gap around the outside of the glass? Yea I expect some rust also, that why I want to see how much and how bad so I can plan the repair. was kind hoping I could just cut the top outside edge off the rubber around the glass and eyball the channel so to speak?

Thanks George!
