Wastegate Adjustment

Hi guys, does anyone have instructions on how-to adjust wastegate rod. Trying to keep my Sy as stock as I can. Just want to get little more boost.
TIA

Unless you are running an after-market chip and a 3Bar MAP sensor, 14.5lbs is all the boost you are going to get. If you hit 15lbs with a stock chip the ECM cuts fuel supply. Not a good thing.

Hey All:
I would like to adjust my WG to get a few more pounds of boost. Did what I am supposed to do by using the search button but once again came up short (my life story). The above link is no longer so can someone help or is there a step-by-step link that someone has to help so I don't screw this up? Thanks.

Re: Wastegate Adjustment

Quoting the Chitown SyTy article.

"With the stock ECM/calibration, and some aftermarket controllers, this is a closed loop type of operation, meaning it reads the boost via a map sensor, then adjusts the wastegate duty cycle based on the desired boost level"

The desired boost level is set in a look up table in the prom. By shortening the rod, it will build more boost quicker, but most likely it will over shoot the desired boost level (boost spike) before the ecm controls it to the desired level. If the rod is too short the ECM won't be able to control boost and if its a short chip it will hit boost cut.

On a mostly stock SyTy using the factory wastegate & turbo, the right way to do it with a close loop boost control is with a 3 bar PROM and 3 bar chip, since 2 bar reads to 14.5 psi and has no really way to control it above that psi.

Re: Wastegate Adjustment

My SY is not stock. I have a custom chip and a 3 bar map setup. I am currently running about 20lbs of boost, but would like to dial in 23lbs - 25lbs. I also have the SBC Alky Kit that comes on at 10lbs of boost. How much should I shorten the WG Rod to be able to achieve my desired boost? Thanks again.

Re: Wastegate Adjustment

Most likely your 3 bar chip still is using a closed loop boost target. So in order to make it higher, its need to be change it in your chip unless you use an aftermarket boost controller.

I do not have an aftermarket boost controller. Is it a tough job to have the chip adjusted? Thanks for all the help.
