Here's a write up on how to ground the IC pump.. I have a2a now so I used the IC pump wiring to activate my volvo fan through a relay. The ic pump relay wire (yellow) that you would cut and ground in the above article I didn't ground.. Instead I ran it in to a rocker switch I mounted on my dash in the dead panel of the sy where normally in a ty the would be switches. So when I flip the switch im grounding the relay to pump which is really the fan = fan turn on.

Ok I gotcha. I have my IC pump grounded and hotwired. I thought that you said a switch on the fan relay ground, I know how to do the IC pump relay ground. Gotcha, thats what I'll do. lol

I have an older Car Craft article discussing wiring up electric fans and they state that you can split the current across multiple relays. I believe they said that older GM cars did this where they used two 20A relays. They ran the wires from the alternator to the relays, then from the relays to the fan which reduced the current going through them. Of course there are pros and cons to every setup such as one relay failing, etc.

I am resurecting this post because I want to reafirm and add a couple of things.

This volvo fan is a perfect fan for our trucks. It sucks incredibly hard. It will suck my gym shorts into the grill through a factory radiator, factory a/c condensor and 3" front mount.

DO NOT install this fan using the factory intercooler relay as the power source only the switching source. You must use a 40 amp or higher relay and you must use 10 guage cable. You must also make sure you find a solid ground. You will experience a melted intercooler relay, melted wires, and pop a 30 amp fuse a day. It just draws so much current it wont work any other way. You can get a complete 40 amp wiring kit from summit for about 80 or do it yourself for 55. Its not much different and it wont require splicing, soddering and 2 hours of fiddling if you just get the kit. I bought everything from napa using a 50 amp relay, 50 amp fuse and 10 guage wire and connectors and it cost 55. You can get the key on power to trigger the relay from the orange wire exiting the intercooler relay or even the pink with black stripe from the same. Nice fan dont skimp on the wiring.
