first trip down the 1/4

NHSTE - I'm the only one!
Decided to take the Ty up to New England Dragway tonight for the street drags... there were an inordinate number of cars there ( I was #384) and so I only got one run through. I've never raced before, so that didn't help either, as I didn't set up properly and left the line with around 1 psi

R/T - .447
60' - 2.484 ( :( ... that 2100 stall stock converter is killing my truck)
1/8 - 9.291
1/4 - 14.151
MPH -101.62

Anyway, got a good datalog off it so hopefully I can make improvements. Rest assured, a 2800 stall 9.5" is #1 on my list of things to do.

smells likes a low 13 / high 12 judging by your trap speed + negative launch. Does it build boost quickly w/ that 2100 stall?

The primer ty w/ 0 boost launch did a better 60' than you....how the hell is that possible.

Not at all ... the truck is an absolute dog out of the hole if you don't give it time to build boost... the first 2 seconds felt like they were in slow motion... but once it gets past about 3000 in 1st I get a nice boost line that holds steady through till I let off... tonight I was running 13.5 psi, saw 3.5* KR for once in the run... knock count was about 1500 for the whole thing.

GT35r? 2.2.... sixty foot that doesnt sound right? how did you launch the truck? did you atleast load the suspension?

Re: first trip down the 1/4

Maybe the ball bearing turbo doesn't really make much difference on spoolup after all?? It's funny because Garrett literature literally says that the "Garrett GT ball bearing design" makes "turbo lag a thing of the past".

That's strange,,, another person w/the same stall as my converter??? 2100RPM??
Wow,small world!!
Everyone did not believe me??
That is what mine stalls at ,,, mine would run a lot better w/a slightly higher stall.
If you run too big a turbine housing, you will get massive turbo lag, even w/a BB turbo.

Re: first trip down the 1/4

Garrett's literature is not wrong at all, the lag on this turbo is less than my stocker was and this is a much bigger compressor. The problem is that at 2100 RPM the truck isn't creating enough exhaust pressure to build any boost worth mentioning. The comes on like crazy above about 2500 rpm, but my stock converter won't let me get there. I did load the suspension, but I was a little jittery at the light because I've never run before

So, basically I'm planning for a higher stall converter and then see just how much she comes alive

This past weekend was fun ford weekend, so I'm sure there was a million rustangs up there trying to go fast. You need to look at the schedule before you go next time. I'm planning on going up for the all Truck Nationals on Sept 23rd if anyone is interested.
Good luck with the truck.

It was my only chance in the near future, so I took it ... I got beaten by a 65 stang coupe, ran a 12.7 or thereabouts, sounded nasty.

Hopefully I can get one more trip in before they shut down for the winter

Atleast you have a lot of room to improve :D I would think with 13 psi it should have the potential to run atleast 12's. I seems like you should have seen more mph, but sometimes the numbers are skewed with an incompatible stall converter and 60's time.

That's what I'm hoping for, but I'm also planning on bringing the boost back up to 18psi once I get the truck dialed in better.

It'll help with some driver time at the track too. I was at NATS last year attempting to launch and pushed through my brakes and the light...D'oh! They let me back up and try it again. I have only a few track passes on my truck as weirdo trans problems on a DD keep me from really launching.

Oh, and also did I mention I was shifting manually and hit the rev limiter in 2nd  ... that hurt too.
