So, I roll into the local street race spot last night and see a brand new 996 turbo. I ask if he wants a go and he says " no thanks. i don't wanna lose to a truck" We did not actaully race but that comment alone is a personal victory for me.

Very few people are gonna spend close to $125,000 for a new car to turn around and whoop up on others right away. That car is designed for much more than 1/4 mile performance but if he knows what he is doing, I doubt you would have been on top after the dust settled even in a 1/4 mile......possible for a 4,000 pound truck to be there but not likely. You need a few more horses ;). Not to mention the new AWD Porsche Turbo is a 997 model with the following stat snip;

hitting the Sport button also activates an overboost function which engages only at full throttle and only for 10 seconds at a time. It allows for an extra 3 pounds of boost, which translates into a brief 505 lb-ft of peak torque at just over 2,000 rpm.

Even without the added thrust, Porsche claims this Turbo will accelerate from zero to 60 mph in just 3.4 seconds

Re: new porsche turbo

good lookin out on the facts. and thanks for raining on my parade. I said it was a personal victory, not an actual victory. And besides, i raced an SRT- 4 which claims to be putting down over 300hp on my low boost setting (about 390 awhp) and stomped his ass. 7 car lengths.... well that is until i blew the motor. Damn shame but ya got love AAA and a sponsor with a local shop.

T-bone wasn't trying to rain on your parade. I hope not. As in previous discussions he mentioned something about driving/owning 996tt and running against Audi RS6. But I will state the fact that if it was brand new it was 997tt or Stuttgart Museum 996tt just joking. Anyhow props on the fact that you actually asked him if he wanted to race. It would have been cool if he would agree.

I never try to ruin a man's spirit. Yet, it is good information before someone with a 997TT takes the challenge for say $250. I wouldn't run a 997TT or a 07-08 Z06 unless I was pushing at least 6-700 WHP out of a Syclone. Otherwise, the spirit of a man in the Sy will most likely be crushed. Anything is possible but the odds just aren't in his favor. The clutch disc is a weakness in most turbo'd Porsches but I think they have refined that weakness in the 997TT.

Re: new porsche turbo

Ya see i own a 440 whp Srt4.....and i'm not stupid enough to race an Awd turbo Sy off the line.....

Most Srt4 guys know threr place....start at 25 mph or at 45.......

Now i also have a Couple GTO's ...now the auto with stall and drag springs and konis and MT's will cut a 1.6 ( not consistantly but it can) i would do a full race with a Sy.....and hope the aerodynamics catches up to you b4 the 1/4 mile.

Those damn porshes are intimidating with there stock 335 rear tires...lol

thats cool man.....he knows what a syclone is obviously and (like me) i stay away from off the line racing with them.... thats your forte....

Add a few more ponies i think a 3.5 0-60 is not a hard thing in a syclone built correctly but what do i know...n00b

You are wrong... At least on the Porsche part. Look for a previous thread on the same matter. 6-700 whp!? My v6 had this number at the crank and I'd crush a stock 997T any time. We had one here last season, tuned by Techart, claimed to be 750 hp at the crank. Run 10.8 at 208km/h. 700whp in a Sy? 10.2 at 220km/h... I've run against him, when he was approx. 100 hp leaner. Beat him. From a roll. It's a great car, but let's not over mystify...

Peace,
