Turbo / Manifold stud replacements

If you guys want to replace Turbo/Manifold studs, you know that GM no longer carrys them.
You can go to any Detroit Diesel or Frieghtliner part department. Tell them you need Turbo/Manifold studs for mid 90s Series 60 Detroit.
They have the same treads! The only diffrens is they are 4mm longer, they fit PERFECT!!
I have them on my TY.
They cost about $2.45 each. :tup:

Sweet, I work at Pacific Power Products in Anchorage, Ak and we are a Detroit dealer. Do you have a part # so I can look it up easier? If not I'll get the part # and cost tomorrow and post them up :tup: .

I think I got the same studs except from Isuzu. Anyways mine are longer too and this poses a very serious problem considering the extremely limited clearance with the PTE turbos on the stock manifold. When I bought my PT51 in 2003, I had to use a dremel to do some moderate clearancing to the exhaust manifold just with the stock studs. To this day the nuts are still difficult to get on/off on all 4 corners because of the wide PTE turbine housing.

With extra length I am pretty sure my PTE turbo simply wouldn't fit on the manifold any longer. So I can't use my spare manifold until I find another solution/stud.

Are you going to be putting a PTE turbo on your studs? Maybe you can report back if yours fits better than mine?

I was going to use SBC chevy header bolts for the PTE exhaust housing, instead of clearance the stuck nuts and studs.

The stud is M10 X 1.50 X 40 MM (actually 38 MM) long. The studs that are used to hold the turbo to the exhaust manifold are exactly the same as the ones that hold the downpipe to it BTW. You could also try getting a socket head cap screw (uses a hex wrench) if you have a decent hardware store by you. In a bolt, you would only need 25 MM (1 inch) of thread length. That's what I used to bolt up my turbo to the exhaust manifold... However as you are well aware, a hex headed fastener this size has a large head which may not work due to clearace issues. Incidentally the front propshaft bolts are the correct pitch and length so you could use those if you don't mind being RWD.

You could also order them from LMC TRUCK. Be sure to buy a $100 IC cap and $500 IC pump if you do...

I dont remember the part#, they should all be the same.
They fit great on stock/20G setup.
I dont know of other turbos.

you're forgetting the trick for getting them off! Just like i told you back in 2004 or so :lol:

You can get a wrench on the nut just fine when its close to the exhaust flange...so all you do it lift the turbo up off the manifold as you back the nut off - this make it simple to get a wrench on the nut for the entire time it travels off the stud. IIRC its just one of the front nuts that is really a pain, you can get the other 3 off no problem - so this method should work just fine.

Ok, so after a quick investigation with the parts guys at work, the studs for a series 60 Detroit are: Part# 08929425 and they are a M10 X 1.50 X 50mm and are $10.23 a piece. I'm not sure if these are the ones the OP got due to the price difference. I'll do a bit more investigating tomorrow if anyone would like.

Yeah, I looked into it a little more today and what I posted earlier still stands true. Now what I posted is what Pacific Power Products charges. We have locations in Alaska (where I am), Hawaii (Oahu), Washington, and Oregon. The part number is the Detroit Diesel # so that is good at any detroit diesel distributor so they may be cheaper in your neck of the woods.

while we are on the subject, what size are the bolts / studs from the exhaust headers?

This is probably the only item in the UK I will ever find cheaper than the US!!! RULE BRITANNIA!

I found them for $0.54 each!!!!

Bumping this thread because I needed to find replacement studs for mounting the turbo to the exhaust manifold. I didn't want to use hardware-store type parts because of the heat in this area. Someone had posted a part number for a Detroit Diesel turbo stud above, but they said it was 50mm long instead of the stock 38mm.

I found a different Detroit Diesel turbo stud on ebay that is the same size as stock. The part number is DDE 23533913. I received them earlier this week and verified they fit correctly. Not sure what they are made of, but they look like a higher-grade material than a grade 8 bolt. Googling the part number found them available from various truck dealers for around $10 apiece. The description on the Ebay listing said they were for a Detroit Diesel Series 60 EPA 04.
