Turbo Rebuild Question

I tore apart my turbo, cleaned it up and started to put it back together.
When putting the turbine shaft back in, the blades are not touching the
heat shield. In the picture I'm working from, they come together, and I
think I recall them being together when I took it apart. I do get a small
"click" which I'm told should happen when the crush clip gets seated.
Does this sound right? Wrong? (I will post pictures pretty soon.)

The circlip inside the turbo is in the correct location, it fits only one way.
The new bearing is identical in height to the one that I removed from it.

I initially thought maybe the exhaust housing held the heat shield onto
the turbo, but a test field revealed that was not so, and the heat shield
falls from its position on the turbo.

The gap on the turbine wheel looks too big.
It should seat in more.

There was a little "click" as the clip went into the turbo housing.
Do I need to apply some pretty hefty force to push it in farther?
I didn't apply too much force, not wanting to break anything yet!
Well, I say that, I was pushing pretty hard, but not using "tools".

Were did you get your rebuild kit? What kind of turbo is it? Thanks.

Used Syclone turbo. TD06 deluxe rebuild kit off eBay.
Every part that I replace was an exact match for what I
pulled off, so there's nothing fatter, wider, taller, etc.

When I attempt to insert the turbine shaft without the
heat shield so I can see what it's doing, the clip goes
into the turbo just barely. I'm not sure if, perhaps, I'm
suppose to give it some *push* to get it further in? It
would take some leverage, my hands couldn't push it
in any further than that initial click.

you have to seat the oil control ring. it's not goin in far enough. it will take some force. lube it real good. and there is a chance you will break it.

Alright, folks, I solved the problem and its back together now.
I took it all apart to retrace everything to make sure I was not
doing something wrong. And, well, I was. The thrust bearing
(I think that's the name) had the metal sleeve backwards, thus
is was not able to seat properly. Flipped it and all is good. :tup:
