Sunoco C16 116 Octane !!! Torco 118 is the best but harder to find!

I must ask you where you get 116 octane in jersey. Im in jersey too and all I can find is 104 unleaded up in north jersey.

Re: race gas what do you use

A mix of about 1/4 Chevron or Union 91 and 3/4 Sonoco 100 unleaded from the track.

Done this way:

since my Sy is not a DD so, Assuming just a trip to the track (about 37 mi) Starting with about a 1/2 tank of previously mixed gas as above I'll buy maybe 3 gals of 91, drive to the track and buy 2-4 gals (depending on how flush I'm feeling that day  ) of 100. Race, then come home and do it again the next week. If I drive in-between I'll buy 91 to just over 1/2 tank and buy a couple extra gallons of 100 that trip.

Feeling pretty good about this "mix," One DM run from last week showed absolutely -0- spark retard throughout the pass. Every run doesn't happen that way but at least I'm getting better at it.

what type of race gas does everyone run in their trucks when they do use it ?

I would just get alcohol if I were you. Especially on your small build :2cents:

why would you say that...
i am planing on putting meth on it later i want to tune it with no meth first get it dialed in there then go to meth and see how much farther i can go... the race gas is only for tuning reasons see how spark retard changes and what not

If you are having nolan tune your truck , he already knows what it will do . Have it tuned with whatever gas you will be running all the time . No point in tuning for something you will use only a fraction of the time . With your mild build , that 20g is only going to get you so far . Possibly running high 11's a few times on an aggressive tune or run mid 12's safely all day will be the best your gonna do . The race gas is only going to let you run a few more psi , but at that point , every other part of your combo is near its breaking point . Just trying to help cause a new motor build isnt fun for everybody .Why even push it for the few extra hp ?

Thats why I say that. Its a why bother or whats the point kind of thing.

Go for the race gas!

Do not rely on alky injection,if it fails you might blow your engine, if you buy a system that does not have safety features.

With race gas ,it's always the same octane, not as much to worry about when you crank up the boost. :2cents:

Re: race gas what do you use

The popular VP Racing Fuels "C-16" costs $13/gal.

I have been running the same alcohol injection kit (SMC Enterprises) since 2002, that makes it a 6 year old kit, and I haven't run less than 20 PSI since then. Still on a stock bottom end! So take any concerns about the "safety" of alky injection with a grain of salt. Your stock fuel pump could suddenly take a shit too. What's to say the alky pump is any less reliable?

Mine has worked like a dream come true. One $15 5 gallon pail of methanol lasts the whole season.

Where in the heck do you find meth for that price? Or is it because I live in sunny Calif?

Until last year it was $1.78/gal from my local race fuel distributor (E.H. Wolf & Sons). Methanol just isn't very expensive. How much are you paying? Now it's about 2.80/gal. Biggest jump I've ever seen.

Here is a current quote for race gas FYI;

Torco 110 leaded: 5.85/gal
VP C16/Q16 $13.15
VP Import $21.00

Re: race gas what do you use

I was talking with a friend the other day about this subject. He told me that there was a new race fuel out there made for forced induction engines. Well you know C-16, but this new stuff is called Q-16. He told me that the race team that he knows says they picked up a good amount of hp by switching to it.

The bad part is it cost like $4 more per gallon then C-16.

Re: race gas what do you use

I just talked w/a guy that runs a Subaru & runs 9.70's ,he said when they switched from C16 to VP import they made more power & could run 4 degrees more timing.

He also said they used to run only methanol but would be on the verge of hydrolocking the engine.
He also said switching from methanol to VP import, they more power w/VP import.

They run 1.3 60 ft times & makes 1200 HP to the wheels w/one car,35 psi,& the other Subaru makes 1500 HP & 50 PSI both 2.5 liter flat fours.
