cab to transfer case clearance problems? 2wd to awd

i know not to many people on here have wasted their time on conversions but i'm hoping at least a couple guys can chime in here.....

i'm swapping my 2wd truck onto a 4x4 frame and going awd and as i was at the wrecking yard today cutting out my rear center console bracket off a 4x4 blazer, i noticed something.

where the bracket is welded to the rear of the trans tunnel it raises up right before, i am assuming for transfer case clearance, i looked on a 2wd truck out there and it is not raised like this

i'm wondering if when i go to do the frame and drivetrain swap that i may have the transfer case hitting the bottom of my cab since it is 2wd and does not have this hump in the rear.

anyone have any input?

thanks guys

One thing I know is that there is an adapter plate between the trans and tranfer case that is different between a 4x4 and awd. If you use the 4x4 adapter it will cause the pitch of the transfer case to raise up towards the cab and cause your propshaft to hit the floorboard. (trust me, I know) The awd adapter will pitch it lower so everything clears.

There are 5 diff floor panels for these trucks depending on the way it is built.

On this matter
(PM ME IF YOU CAN GET-
INNER SEAT BRACKETS WELDED TO THE FLOOR, SY/SOGT ONLY, AND REAR SHIFTER BRACKET WELDED TO FLOOR) The inner seat brackets are the same to all H/B bucket seats according to the manual. The shifter brackets are another matter. If you have a picture of what you have, post for me and I can then tell what you need. The rear console bracket is common to all trucks that have a console.

does this just get put between the trans and transfer or bolt to one or the other? the awd transfer i bought was from the wrecking yard and was already separated from the trans so i'm not even sure what the adapter plate would look like or where it would go

i have a floor cut from a ty with the shifter cable hole and front bracket, the cove that PAS added over the stock 4x4 hole.

i drilled the welds and burned the seam sealer off and separated the PAS added cover from the cut off the floor. i cut a REAR bracekt off a blazer this weekend and thats when i noticed the hump i mentioned in the first post.

and as for the seat brackets i had drilled out blazer seat brackets and put them on the old cab and had a difficult time making them fit properly, because they were from a different floor pan

as you said above, There are 5 diff floor panels for these trucks depending on the way it is built.

but dave had sent me this message a while back so thats why i was looking for sy/gt specific brackets

There are two part numbers for the RH seat bracket. (This is the bracket I researched for this study). Unfortunately, the two numbers are listed for all body styles. Obvious errors in the parts book. So no help. All brackets used in the standard cab (Style 03) are going to be the same. From experience, the 4-door (style 06) and extra-cab (style 53) are the same. The 2-door (style 16) I'm not sure about. I just don't remember. But I think it's going to be the same as 06 & 53. The odd-ball is the 03 (standard-cab). I'm pretty sure you can only use brackets from a standard cab.hey someone gave me an idea....what about newer standard cab s10's with buckets, do you know if they changed the floor pan? if not, then that may be a bit easier to findOK. My parts fiche doesn't show any seat brackets for 1994. Doesn't mean they aren't there, just not listed. I don't have any personal knowledge of the second-gen S/T series, so I don't know either.

Yeah, the adapter goes between the trans and transfer case. If I remember correctly, it bolts to the trans, and then the transfer case bolts to the adapter. You will need an adapter from a Bravada/Sy/Ty and not just any 4x4. You'll see why when its all bolted together and the pitch of the transfer case is too close to the floor board.

thank you for that bit of info, i would have found out the hard way otherwise, does anyone have one?? i don't think i have access to a bravada trans and definitely not a sy/ty.

also i read a post a while back about regearing the t-case so that you can use diff size wheels/tires in the front/rear, reason i ask is my corvette wheels i have are 17 front 18 rear and with a thicker side wall in the front to make the height difference would just be retarded.

What about the Bravada the cross member came from? You said you left the trans and T-case "tied up"....

well this particular wrecking yard ythat i got tht crossmember from is very weird and i have a high suspicion that they would not let me separate the trans and transfer just for the adaptor plate. plus they would not know what i'm talking about and assume i'm robbing parts off the motor or trans

these guys are the ones, that if you want a fender emblem you gotta buy the whole fender, or you want to buy a trans well you gotta buy it with the t-case. no parts off the motor you gotta buy the whole thing. even though they warranty NOTHING.
they are a joke, lol i don't even know how they stay in business i wouldn't buy anything mechanical from them. they tried to sell me a whole bravada instead of taking the cross member, when i looked underneath the cross member on THIS particular truck was rusted nearly all the way through, it would have soon fallen out if it had continued driving on the road

oh yes these guy are cracked out drunken gypsy jokers that own this yard

Won't work. Think about it. The goal is to have the two driveshaft speeds be equal. Ie. matched tire rolling diameters, with matched axle gear ratios. If the tire diameters are mis-matched, then the 'gear ratio' to change is one of the differentials R&P ratio.

OK, I guess you could change the gears for the front output. The ratio is currently 1:1, the number of teeth on both the drive and driven gears is the same. You would have to change both gears to keep the pitch diameter the same, or find a different length chain..

In a practical world, neither of these scenarios are practical. Mostly because of the exorbitant expense. Get 4 wheel / tire combinations of equal size. Don't try to "re-invent the wheel". Yes, the pun was intentional.

well i know i saw someone that had a whole post about it but i wouldn't do it anyway, to much work.....

i wonder if george blake has the adaptor you speak of? i'll have to ask him tomorrow

If you have a Pick A park or a Pick Your Part in your area. That would be your best bet and cheap, as now these Bravada are really starting to show up now. The last time I went here locally, they had 5 of these that were complete, some of them had no damage with clean oil on the oil and trans dip stick.
