1996 CK1500 Build

I just got the idea in my head now. It will take saving my money and finding good resources to get it done.

I have a 1996 Chevrolet CK1500 Pickup with the 4.3L Vortec V6 in it now. I wanna go turbo. I was thinking Sy/Ty swap (or at least throw a Sy/Ty turbo on my block).

(Also, before I get flamed, I know you guys get pissed at the 1,000,000's of "I got a beat S-10 and I wanna make a Syclone knock-off" posts on here but with all due respect, I searched for modded CKxxxx fullsize trucks on here and came up with nothing much...)

So, all that aside, can it be done and if so, how much? I see they have Turbo kits from $4000 and up for S-10 4.3L's and I found one site where I can get a stock Typhoon take-off turbo setup for $2500. Are these resonable prices? Can I get any cheaper?

Think Sy/Ty/SGT's are hard to find parts for? Try a V6 in a full size pickup. There's shitloads of resources out there for S-10's with 4.3L V6's (and heck, even some 2.8L V6's and 4 bangers) but when you're talking full size pickups, fugitabotit!

It's not really a bad truck. It runs shitty high 16sec 1/4's right now but has some low end to tow decently with and gets about 20mpg highway. Plus, I did not buy the truck. My dad bought it brand new from the factory in '96 and asked for the V6 model because he is a stinch when it comes to fuel economy and didn't want a "big honkin' gas-guzzling V8". So, he passed the truck on down to me when my '91 S-10 tranny took a dump on me so he could buy a new Dodge RAM (with an even SMALLER 3.8L V6 :roll: ) Now I wanna make a fast V6 truck and be different. Anyone can throw a 350 into a truck. Been there done that. I wanna see what I can make this V6 accomplish.

its not worth the time, or the effort..

the fullsize is heavy, and to be honest there probably aren't any differences drivetrain wise between a s10 and a fullsize..

any questions answered for s10s will be answered for your truck

Do yourself a favor and drop a small block in the truck. 100% of the parts youll need can be had from the dealer or a bone yard.

Now, if truely wanna be different then be prepared to spend a LOT of money to make a 4.3 haul a full sized truck down the 1/4 mile at any speed thats not laughable. Everything you will buy to hop up the V6 will be more expesive unless you have a good handle on what interchanges between the 4.3 and 350 SBC. If you are intimately familiar with that then you are one step ahead but youre still gonna spend an ass load of money on the NA V6 and end up with the same performance as a stock TBI 350.

$2500 for a syty "turbo set up" includes what? If its just the manifolds and turbo then Ill sell you that for $1500 cause youll need the other grand for to get an ECM, PROM, wiring harness, low comp pistons, fuel pump, and the machine work/parts to put the pistons in the motor. $2500 should get you a complete syty engine (stock) including harness, turbo, manifolds, ECM, etc.

There is a fullsize with a complete Syclone setup already here in Orlando. Ian and I saw it at the local track, and I think it ran some low 13's. So, yes it can be done. I think this guy bought the entire drivetrain out of a wrecked Syclone, maybe Ian (SyTyArchives) will remember.
