I did a search on the forum and couldnt find anything (maybe I should have tried another topic) but anyway, I might buy a 1986 Blazer S10 as a winter project. Ive looked for hours trying to find out information on tossing a Typhoon engine in it but I cant find anything. Any information you guys could give me would be great!

Specs on the SUV 1986 Blazer S10 2.8l V6 4x4(I dont know if its man or auto)

On a side note, Im new to the board and will be coming here freq. if I do get this suv.

You probably need to go to one of the S-series sites for the swap info. look up swapping a 2.8 to 4.3. This site is primarily tech for SyTy's.

To answer the syty portion of your question:
You will need:SyTy engine with intercooler,turbo,manifolds,downpipe,computer,harness
blah blah etc.

Other than fitting the intercooler it will be standard 2.8 to 4.3 swap.

You want my opinion? If you want something with a Typhoon engine Buy a Typhoon. Otherwise start with a truck that originally had a 4.3 It will be a much easier swap. Also if it is power you are looking for a SBC will be cheaper.

forget the typhoon motor.
it is a pain in the ass.
too expensive to get all of the parts.
best bet is to get a SBC, actually an LT1 would be nice...

A Ty complete engine will cost about 2000-2500. Your going to need a new tranny, because the torque of motor will kill it and your going to want an AWD unit and propshaft because it will the tires like crazy in 2wd. Your looking at close to $4000 by the time you done and that doesn't include any labor. After all that you still have a 86 blazer that isn't worth that much and is franstien creature in the eyes of most, it still doesn't have the cladding, nicer interior pieces, gauges, wheels and will always be worth more.

I figured the 700R4 would be okay for the typhoon engine (700R4 is whats recomennded for the v8 conversion). The blazer is 4x4 (I "ass-u-me-d" that if I got 2 transfer casings from a GMC Safari or Astro that I wouldnt need a propshaft) Im not looking for a "Typhoon" I just want something diffrent from the rest. Granite(sp?) a LS1 with the lingenfelter setup would be killer and pretty rare Im just exploring my options right now. Just seemed like a good price @ 400 bucks (chassie and interior are in B+ shape).

What a lot of people don't realize is the torque a SyTy engine will make, It makes around 440lbs of torque in stock form and easily exceeded 500lbs with a some mods. It takes worked 350 to make that amount of torque (heads/cam/intake/headers) that a stock SyTy will make. A stock 4x4 blazer 700r4 won't last very long at all, behind the motor.

As for the propshaft (aka front driveshaft), you would still need one if your
going to be AWD. AWD units from the Astro Van or Bravado are cheaper ways to get an the AWD unit, but those vehicle aren't that common so it make take some time to hunt one down at a junkyard.

I parted out a flipped Syclone this last summers and I was surpised at how many SyTy specific part were on these trucks. Ofcourse some of these interior pieces and cosmetics, so they don't apply to your swap and some of the peices could be fabricated. The SyTy isn't just a simple add a Turbo/AWD swap.

I appreciate all your help guys. Its not often that you come to a board and you get decent help let alone GREAT help. You guys are awesome. Like most of you have said its gonna take a lot of $$$, and unfortunatly thats $$$ i dont have ;). So its back to the drawing board for a project car. (besides mopars suck! ;) jk!!!!!!) Thanks Again I really apprciate(sp?) all the help!
