Re: Book: How to Swap LS Engines into Anything

I bought a LS6 from a '03 Z06, so I'm reading three SA books:

(SA156) Swap GM LS-series Engines Into Almost Anything

A good book with a lot of pics, but the "how-to" details are a little weak. The book summarizes the swap for a 1st gen Camaro, BMW E36, '87 Grand National, Jaguar XJS, Volvo 740, '60 Pontiac Biscayne and a '63 Nova. This book is mostly about what swap parts are out there.

(SA147) How to Rebuild GM LS-series Engines

Covers everything from disassembly to break-in and tuning. A lot of good tips and technical info. Almost like a reference manual.

(SA86) How to Build High-Performance Chevy LS1/LS6 V-8s (updated version)

I keep reading this one. 100 HP mods, 500 HP build, 1200 HP build. There's even a page on a 2nd gen Sonoma swap.

I got them all from Amazon. Their price + shipping was cheaper than what I could find on eBay.

I have read and own a few "Jags that Run" books and learned that just because a title appeals to you does not necessarily mean the info in the book pertains to your project, or the info is accurate.

So far, i think a lot of them lack electrical info and just tell you to buy the factory manuals. -So you or more or less on your own there.

It would be nice to know what swaps are plug and play and which ones require extensive modification.

I'm curious to view this book to see how technical it is.

SA156 doesn't have much in its electrical section. It has a couple of LS1 PCM pin-out guides from LS1Tech.com. It also covers a bit about the differences between a drive-by-wire and a cable-drive harness. With all the LS harness variations (car or truck engines, manual or auto trans, drive-by-wire or cable drive, 24x or 58x reluctor, displacement on demand, etc.) this book recommends an aftermarket harness because of the tech assistance that comes with it.

Tried to see if it was available via torrent and didn't see it yet, may take a while

If you go on LS1Tech and read the thread, where the author of the book was looking for people to send pictures and there swaps in progress, I don't think you'll waste your time or money on the book. The consensus was that the book ended just being a sales catalog for one of the swap parts suppliers.
