Well first let me start off by saying this year seemly had surprise after surprise (for me anyway) since the moment I arrived.
First it was hearing from Jimmy and Canadia (aka Cam) was possibly driving down from Canada. Of course Jimmy only said "I think Cam is coming", he didnt say he definately was, but my next reaction was "DAMNIT! why didnt you tell me this earlier, I would have egged him on to come down, we almost had him last year!!" Well needless to say, Cam showed up that evening in his awesome Red/Red Ty, bugs and all and I for one was thrilled to finally meet the man who actually bought his truck 40 mins from my house.
Cam, thank you for coming down this year and thank you for driving me around all weekend. I also thank you for not snoring as loud as Jimmy :lol: I know a lot of people enjoyed meeting you and seeing your awesome truck. I can only hope you come down again next year and bring some of those other funny talkin guys with ya :eh:
My next surprise..... ok well not so much a surprise but its always a mystery as to when they are gonna show up in the Corvette, but Ryan and Rich pulled in and almost immediately start mixing drinks. I soon found out from them that despite Brian Green not being able to make it, some other SyTy Celebs were supposed to be making an appearance, namely Dubb, Andrew and Sean.
Being that it was about a year since I saw Sean last, two years since Dubb was riding in my truck to the track in '04 and I had never really met Andrew, I was sure this year was going to be one to remember.
Ryan & Rich, Ive said it many times in the past, but you guys are part of the heart and soul of SyTy Nats. Whether you show up in a whiney sounding Vette or an angry weedwacker sounding Typhoon, having you guys there just elevates the fun to that next level.
Dubb, you and I used to go back and forth on the old forum like 2 e-thugin' bitches. You single handedly almost pissed me off to the point of quitting (im sure there are some who wish you had), but nevertheless we put our differences aside in 2002 for the greater good, also known as alcohol, and the rest is history. Youre quite the character and if youve had any thoughts about skipping another year and showing up in 2008 as your bi-yearly surprise, dont because I think youre gonna wanna be there in 2007.
Sean, like Ryan and Rich, the stories you tell and the knowledge you have are irreplaceable. Nats without you is like Dubb being sober, it just shouldnt happen. Im certainly glad the rest of my caravan was a little late leaving on Sunday because I definately would have kicked myself for missing your mad Magnum driving exhibition. I sure hope Jason got that on tape.
Andrew, we didnt get to talk one on one a whole lot this weekend, but the group conversations made for more than a few laughs. Of course screwing with Adam on Saturday night was a lot of fun as well, infact I might have to change his name on my phone now :lol: It was great to finally meet you and hopefully you'll roll out with Sean again next year...... maybe you can even get one of this 3 trucks running.
Friday morning started off with a bang....... or a beer anyway, followed by Dave G. strolling across the parking lot saying hi to everyone. The Trailblazer SS is a little quieter than the Ty was, but it got you noticed just the same. Too bad you couldnt bring your better half with you, maybe she would have been able to get that truck in the 13's :lol:
I think I bumped into Dabney shortly there after, unless I saw him on thursday night also, either way you are another guy who has left his unforgetable mark on the SyTy Nats and Im very glad for getting to meet you last year and seeing your return this year. Maybe 3rd time will be the charm and we'll see you AND your truck in 2007.
At some point durning the day, Vinny just started appearing everywhere I went, maybe it was that red shirt or maybe it was just his attention grabbing attitude, whatever it was Im certinaly glad I didnt miss the opportunity to meet you and have a handful of laughs over the weekend. Unfortunately I didnt get to see you on Sunday to say goodbye, but hopefully you'll be there next year and we can do it all over again.
Probably one of the best surprises of the weekend was my return to the room to check out the weather on Jimmys laptop. Along with checking the weather I had to check the forum as well and upon doing that I found a post by George Blake saying he would be appearing on Saturday! :rock: I immediately went back out to the parking lot and asked a few staff members if that was true. Indeed it was, since Jeff didnt bring the trans along with him, Mr. Blake (and family) would be delivering the trans in person.
I finally got to meet up with George at the track after the foot races were over and I had gained the ability to walk again. Along the way we both met some other SyTy owners for the first time, like Jack who flew out after hearing of all the excitement that was in store for this year.
George, Im so glad I finally got to put the name to a face. Its been way too long and youve helped me with so many questions, Im just glad you came out to see what it was all about and that I finally got to shake your hand. I certainly hope you and the family can find the time to come out next year, I for one didnt get to talk to you long enough and Im sure there are many others who didnt either.
Jack, although it was a somewhat brief introduction, it was definately good to see you there, whether you flew or not you got to see what nats is all about, hopefully get to put some names and faces together yourself and maybe next year you'll bring your truck out right?
T Jay, I cant forget about you. Your contributions to the Nats as well as the SyTy community as a whole are greatly appreciated. Your artwork, your pictures and your desire to make quality these things available to truck owners is untouchable. I certainly hope you come back out next year because I truely think the 10th anniversary will be one to remember as well.
Team Sweden!! Guys, you were not only entertaining to watch on the track, but lots of laughs in the parking lot as well. I know there was talk about returning next year without the truck and I certainly hope that happens. I think Robert will have even more fun without the stress of racing and everything else that happened over the weekend. Anders, youre a party animal :tup: I enjoyed hearing your stories about things overseas and I cannot wait to hear more of them next year.
Team Colorado! I only got to speak with a few of you, some Ive known for multiple years, some I only met this weekend. The saying goes, dont let 1 bad apple spoil the bunch, unfortunately things happened so fast that one bad apple spoiled things faster than they could have been saved. John, I must say your truck is quite the unique monster, Im glad I got to see it upclose and personal. You covered a lot of the bases I like to see done in a vehicle, namely power, looks and quality and your Most Innovative Mod award is well deserved. Dabney and Alex both spoke highly of you and now I see why. I certainly hope you get the bugs worked out over the next year and we see your name go higher and higher on the timeslip database and I hope we get to see you and your truck at Nats again next year.
Im sure I have missed someone on here that I wanted to say thank you to, but its certainly not intentional. After a long weekend of racing, partying and driving, its rough trying to recount all the weekends events.
Last but not least, Id like to once again thank the staff for not only the work over the weekend, but for the work that happens all year long to make this event happen. I know its a frustrating job, but believe me it doesnt go unnoticed.
In closing, after returning home this morning and already having a few phone calls with some SyTy Owners who were NOT at Nats this year, I think I may have to keep my truck around for 1 more year and have it make its final appearance at the 10th Annual SyTy Nats in 2007. :tup:
