I also know of some people who have used the newer cast aluminum pans on Syty motor buildups. I'm curious if the Eagle rods clear these pans... putting a fitting for a turbo oil return would be cake on these as well, and you could use a *common* size, rather than the goofy size the stocker has, so a 12AN hose line conversion could be done.

Is there any advantage in using a Cast pan? Hold more oil, or cools better? Can it be changed with motor in easily? I would look but trucks not here.

A trend in engines lately is more bottom end strength (see the LS1 cast pan with deep skirt block, similar to the 3800 etc). The goals with these changes are 1 - decreased noise and vibration and 2 - strength.

If it helps in either category, it's worth it IMO.

Plus, you can put any type of oil return fitting you want in it. It's to be seen how easy/difficult the modification for Eagle rods is in a cast aluminum pan.

In order to run a cast pan you would need to either run the matching balance shaft block or fill some of the stock pan bolt holes and redrill them to accept the cast pan.

The cast pan uses a bolt pattern that is further outboard than the tin pan. They also use a larger bolt. Nolan and I looked into this one day because I had a few pans and blocks laying around.

I'm sure Mike Lee will chime in here, but he offers a real good looking welded Alum pan for ~ $650.

I just had a stock new one modded by Conley for a few $100. to accomodate wide 4-Bolt Mains, Eagle Rods and an AN Turbo return line.

what did your new one come off of? i just need to know if there are any design differences between pans for a 2wd and a 4wd since i don't have anything to compare it to.

don't suppose you have any pics of your modded pan?

Mr. Canuck,

I will have some pics of the Conley modded pan in a few weeks. Good smooth job. I had just ordered a new pan from Dal - GM - only ~ $65. I would imagine that the 2WD pan is different because the 4WD pan is real shallow in the front to provide clearance for the Front Diff., and this is why there R interferences.
