Take it to a machine shop. They'll do it right (heli-coil). This is something you don't want to chance you skills on.

Re: crankshaft

I was tryng to remove the harmonic ba;lancer and did it wrong. Honestly I never ever did it before. I called my dad and he told me what the it looks like and found it in the tool box at the shop. No instructions. made a real stupid move inserting. After I looked at what I was doing it had occured to me what needed to be done and it was already too late. I inserted a large metal rod into the hole with out putting the fastener in to I guess prevent what happen- have happen.

Re: crankshaft

I would be wary of helicoiling the crank, shouldn't the crank be re balanced after doing something like that?

Re: crankshaft

I'd be really surprised if you can't fix it by just chasing the threads with a tap. You having been very clear on exactly what you did to the threads though...

I agree. Get a tap and chase it. It's a UNF in thread there. Tap should be easy. Double check the thread before you do it!!!

I can't imagine you got a rod in there too far if it were the wrong size.
