I have a pair of 6 1/2's in each door. I could have probally used 1 or 2 6x9's in each door if I wanted to. It was very EZ 2 do and I didn't even have to puul the door panels off. I just pulled of the pockets and cloth along the bottom and replaced the area with an MDF panel that I routed on the edges and installed the speakers in. I glued on black pleather/vinel from JoAnn's Fabric and used grille cloth over the supplied steel wire mesh grilles. I also put 2 6 1/2's in each of the rear 6x9's locations buy losing the ash trays. It was all very EZ and greatly improved the sound. I drive a Pioneer 4x6 in the dash with a "bass Blocker" capacitor cutting 150 hertz at 24 db per octave off of the Sony's head power (24 RMS/52 peak) and the 6 1/2's are wired in series at 8 ohms then paralelled back to 4 ohms (4 on each channel / 2 in each location) and driven hard by a HiFonics Boltar (200 RMS x 2) with a 150 hertz at 12 db per octave high pass filter (pre-amp).
As for subs, I have 9 JL audio 10W0's and my old box was 6 Cerwin Vega (old school with the orange foam) 12's. My sub amp is a HiFonics Colossus (600 RMS x2) but I'm shooping for something new. Maybe 2 MTX HD1000's? Any ideas? Hit me up!

6x9s are pretty heavy for a door panel though. I've found 1/8" aluminum on the back side sandiwched between the speaker and panel or exposed on the inside of the door panel works well to help support heavier speakers. Be sure to isolate the aluminum from anything that may rattle with real thin weatherstriping or even some thick vinyl tape. I had a set of 6 1/2 woofers with 4" mids and some tweeters in my pre runner until the 6 1/2s ripped out and took the lower section of the door panel with them.

Do you really wanna see pics of my grey primered Jimmy and a pile of cladding in a box? I'll borrow a digital camera as soon as I can! LOL!

i am thinkin an 84 Jimmy AWD V8... 3/3 drop and cladding would look pretty sweet... :smile:

but alas... i gotta figure out how to finance it... :smile:

good luck with the project... post pics when you get some...

btw... did you keep the stock grill or go with the syty style ...
