Engine work/Pulling the engine?

Super noob here.

The engine can idle and drive around without boost, but soon as I start giving it throttle it starts bucking and stalling. Felt like an ignition issue.

Trying to go over the engine and I found I had short UR5 plugs on the driver side... Which doesn't help since I have Vortec heads that need the longer reach.... Replaced those.

I also got a "clack" sound in the valve train on the driver side near the brake booster.

I'm trying to go through the mechanical components of the valve train to assure they are okay. When setting the lifter preload on the adjustable rockers, one of the lifters is stuck with the plunger all the way up. Suggestions?

Also thinking of pulling the engine. It doesn't look easy, any tips or tricks? Advice doing so?

Thanks.

First, welcome to the insanity. Virtually everything you need/want to know is here. Play around with the search, you might be surprised.

How do you know that a lifter is stuck? Thinking of pulling the motor is fine but do you have a solid reason? Compression bad? metal in the oil? Lifters can be changed without pulling the motor if that's truly what's wrong.

I guess I could just pull the heads, manifold then work from there but I wanted to try to clean up the engine bay. Get rid of the wiring that not necessary anymore etc.

The easiest way to pull the motor is to get someone else to do it! Welcome
