GAST Meet in the Spring

True....but being a Dynapack, some people may not know the whole story on those type of dynos.

PROS
- AWD compatible
- very accurate
- sustained rpm ability
- no traction loss

CONS
- wheel removal required
- riding on jackstands while going WOT
- hp/tq numbers skeewed vs Dynojet, etc.....
- no traction loss

All in all, my opinion on the Dynojet is that it's a very nice dyno for tuning. It can definitely tell you power output, but it's an ideal output. Real world output is something different. That's why I listed "no traction loss" in both sections. It's nice to know how much the truck really makes, but if it won't put it to the ground, WTF does it matter? That was my major reason for not personally purchasing a Dynojet personally (that and the price tag  ). Customer comes in with a lot of nitrous on a car and it's blowing the tires clean in just about every gear, I wanna see it on the dyno. Personally.

Another point...I have a buddy with an '00 Camaro that went to a Dynapack dyno weeks after going to a Dynojet. The numbers were indeed quite different. And not just at points where traction loss may occur. My Dynapack rep informed of this...the Dynapack does use differing calculations than the Dynojet. He (my buddy) didn't like the idea of going WOT on jackstands either.

The ultimate decision lies with you guys. I have no preference either way. Just airing some pros/cons of this type of dyno. What do ya'll think?

So if you use a standard dyno (rear wheels only) do you have to take the front prop off the make a dyno run? This may be a retarded question. But I'm new to this AWD issue.

Yep....must remove front p-shaft to run on 2WD dyno. No big deal. I'll even offer my services for p-shaft removal on the day of the dyno. Plus, you'll have a chance to do that burnout you always wanted to do.

FWIW, there will be plenty of time to do wrenching on the day of the dyno. However, wrenching time while ON the dyno is usu. limited to 15 min b/t runs, so have all your "ducks in a row" when we get there. No heater core changes on the dyno. :D

That reminds me, we had 2 heater cores explode ON the dyno last time and the shop was non too happy with the green floor below. I emplore you to thoroughly inspect your core and it's lines before the dyno. I gave them my word that would never happen again. Better yet, bypass it for that one day.

Hi Michael, I just recieved my Silver Dollar Raceway 2003 schedule in the mail, so far April 5/6 the ford's have the track for thier annual meet,(they may not let any gm products run with them anymore scince in Montgomery, the camaro et racers took all the money home) the 11,12 and 13th there is some kind of Pennington Spring Nt'ls scheduled, April 19th is the jerry barker's chevy et series date (open for all, 1/8th mile racing.) . the website for silver dollar is :
www.silverdollarraceway.com Ed, the owner, is an old racing friend of mine as is Larry Cox, the track manager. If you need me to arrainge anything, let me know. The track is only an hour away from me, well if you drive 80mph. The track is open every friday night too.... Let me know, Steve. PS, george johnson sold his ty to someone from washington state, the new owner is also a member of this board.

With this new info about S/D when will a decision be made on a track location or date. And will anyone be bringing their wifes or girlfriends along. My wife was wanting to ride along with my kids but I told her that this was probably gonna be a mainly guy thing. Thanks, looking forward to getting together and meeting everyone.

Well, it's getting closer every day so let's go ahead and nail down a date. The most obvious dates I see are:

- April 20th - this is the next wk-end after the 12/13th. We could use the same format as before, just a wk-end later.

- May 4th - this is the 1st wk-end in May.

- May 11th - this is the following wk-end.

Another possibility is to have it March 30th with the Southeast F-body club. They were real cool about letting a few of us SyTy guys come last year, but would hafta check and see if they'd mind 10-15 of us coming. They had a lot of people there last year, so it may be a bit crowded for us.

This all is entirely up to you guys. I want it to be on a wk-end that suits the majority (if not all) of us.

What works for ya'll?

With the post about the Silver Dollar schedule will things change about the April meeting? I was thinking since S/D was 2 hours south maybe look at Commerce seeing it's right at 2 hours north. Good places to eat and shopping and hotels. Also will anyone be bringing their wives or girlfriends along. My wife and kids were wanting to tag along but I figured this might be mainly a SY TY guy get together. Looking forward to meeting everyone.

I'd wish I could make it but I've since moved to Houston. Keeping the truck through the transition (new house, marriage) is a feat in itself. Dont think I'll be able to sell her on making a road trip that far. Grrrrrr.

Wazzup, Atl?! Missin it.
