Im dealing with a hard start issue after the truck sits for a while .I got a hold of a fuel pressure gauge once i get it running it looks to be reading in the 40's .I noticed after it sits for a few hrs pressure is at 0 . I really dont know of any history of the pump on this truck . . Im thinking fuel pump what do you guys think before I drop the tank ?

Re: hard starting help

Although FP should hold for a few minutes, after sitting for a few hours -0- would be normal.

When you first turn the key on (not to start, just to on) do you hear the fuel pump run for 2 seconds? If so what does the fuel pressure do? Also there is an electrical terminal just hanging loose near the dist pas side. Make a test wire and put 12v into that term. If the pump runs and fuel pressure comes up then it's not the fuel pump.

Assuming fuel pressure comes up and holds crank the motor and watch FP. Does it hold while cranking? If not then it may be the ign module. Watch FP while cranking. If it starts once FP comes up then it's also probably the ign module.

Re: hard starting help

I did verify the pump does come on when i turn the key and the pressure reads 45 . Would a bad ignition module throw a cel .

It can. You need the code to go further.

When you attempt to start does the FP stay up?

Re: hard starting help

after doing some research on this forum I unplugged the cts sensor and it fired up so I ordered an ac delco one . I went out today an cheched the fuel pressure gauge and it said 40 psi after I started it last night .
