Installing EGT - ATR

EGT guys,

Just drilled the 1/4" hole in the ATR's headers mounted in the car. I remember guys talking about the metal chips that fall in the headers.

Should I pull off the Turbo and Headers to remove the chips ?

yes.

the only way you may have been able to prevent this is by having the motor running and drill/tap while the engine is on.. This will blow out 95% of the chips, and you just need to make sure you go slow and have the drill bit soaked in lube/greese/etc. We do this on the diesels alot.

Mike,

Do U guys work on commercial trucks or just HiPo Diesels ?

I wasn't tapping any threads, so there shouldn't be as much metal. I'm using the clamp type of EGT - not as good as welding in a bung.

Has anyone done the clamp type EGT on the car, with just a drilled hole, and started up w/o taking apart the Turbo and Headers ? I'm not sure I want to take the chance.

If its not too late you may want to get a different probe. Lot cleaner, and nicer looking. Get the one with the threaded insert.

Mike - As far as the screw in probe -

Do you put a bung on it ? I wouldn't think U could get many threads on metal as thin as the SS on the ATR's. So where would I get the bung ? It would probably have to be welded on and I have already Jet Hotted the headers.
