Knock sensor ?

If you unhook the knock sensor should you get knock with the truck sitting at a idle? Trying to find my kr I unhooked the knock sensor and at idle I am getting 4* of kr. Hook it back up and it goes to 0* at idle then rev it up and down and I get 2-3* at 2700-3000.
