need help making decisions

Ok so I have Syclone #1376 with 110K. I pulled the motor because I was thinking about going LS. I have now decided to put the votec heads that I have on with a cam. So I need help with picking a cam and a converter. The guy I bought the car from said the trans was built but I'm not holding my breath. I'm thinking of just keeping the stock turbo and purchasing Holley HP EFI. I don't want to shell out a huge amount of money right away. I want to get it back on the rode driving while I get more parts put together.
I do have a used ITS 66mm I could throw on. I don't know anything about it but it seems good to go. I would need a T3 to T4 adapter to use the turbo. Would a adapter make the turbo too high. The one I was looking at is around 2" tall.

ok so....
stock block, pistons ,rods
aftermarket cam ?
stock vortec heads
stock vortec valve springs
stock vortec rockers
stock intake
Kenne-Bell A2A
60lb injectors
ITS 66mm
Holley HP EFI
Torque Converter
700r4
aftermarket wastegate ?(located on crossover pipe)

Eventually it will have a built v6 or LS Motor.

Thanks for the help I am new to these cars. I have been in the LS world.

Read www.powertuneplus.com

All those upgrades with a stock turbo? Those are all designed to support turbo upgrades. How fast do you want to go and how much can you realistically afford to spend on it?

Read Sean Krupa's build thread for ideas.

If I used the stock turbo it would be a temporary part. Just to get the car running. I want to go 10.99 or faster but realistically right now ill be happy in the 11's while I put together a stronger engine. I can afford whatever I just don't want to dump $8000 into it in one shot. I will put a decent amount into it to get it moving. Ill probably start with the 66mm that I have laying around.

Why not just put money into it to get it moving reliably under it's own power and then start purchasing the parts for the LS swap why you have a running driving truck.

It was running just fine when I took it apart to do the vortec heads. I want to push it as far as I can before the LS swap. The Holley can be reflashed to work with a LS engine just need a new harness. It was just too slow stock.

I think I'm going to go with a Morris custom cam.
I do need a place in Colorado that does machining for the vortec heads.

If I was going to do a major engine swap down the roads, I wouldn't go doing a heads/cam Vortec swap.

First I wouldn't do those mods with a stock turbo, you are going to find the airflow limitation of the stock turbo real quick. For the time & money, it isn't going to be much faster. With an upgraded turbo and those mods, you are going to breaking parts (likely the trans) and it going to PIA project that was suppose to be stepping stone. Your are going to be spending money on parts you won't be able to use for LS swap.

You said the truck was too slow stock - Did you ever run your stock Syclone at the track or put it on a scan tool? Sort out the truck, do some minor mods and enjoy it. Install the Holley if you want. A Syclone should be able to run mid-high 12's on the stock turbo with higher boost and supporting mods. Syclone are respectable 0-60, but it won't be that fast on the highway.

I have a 66mm ITS turbo I got used. I would probably use that but it seems like LS swap is the best plan for me goals and money.
I did take the car to the track Pueblo, Colorado. 14.2 94mph
It was great 0-60 but ran out of steam.

I agree with dgoodhue. I wouldn't waste money on parts that you probably aren't going to use if you do the LS swap. Save the money for those parts or do mods now that support those parts (fuel system, etc)

You might start a new thread in the marketplace section with a list of parts and prices. I for one would be interested in several engine items (if not the whole engine depending on where you are located...Colorado? Would be close enough).
