Power Steering bolt

Does anyone know what size the bolt is on the power steering pump pulley, it looks like a maybe allen. I realize that I need a puller to remove the pulley (I did do a search)

Power Steering bolt

dgoodhue,

The GM power steering pulley is pressed on. Yes, you need a puller AND an installer. All these tools do is push and pull the pulley off. No nut or bolt to loosen or remove.

Some parts houses will loan these tools but they are cheep enough.

I hope this helps.

Dave,

I got one from O'Reillys' that worked fine - W-87020 by Performance Tool, or something like that. Doesn't reinstall. Some of the tools supposedly reinstall also.

My new pump came with an "installer".

It's actually just a long bolt with a square nut and a washer on it.
Thread the bolt into end of PS pump pulley/shaft,
hold bolt with wrench while you turn the square nut against the pulley,
pressing it on.

It was a PITA just because the fan and shroud are so close.
I got the installer set where the wrench would rest agains the steering gear box, but the pulley started to spin and back out the installer.
I had to hold the pulley still, so it wouldn't spin under the torque.

Pure Sucked, I am glad I am done with that R&R.

Thanks for all the advice. Fortunately, I don't have the fan, shroud or the radiator currently installed, so hopefully I have enough room....

What jas said for the install...that's how we did it as some jackass broke the puller/remover and didn't pay for it...so we just foun a bolt & nut.

What Dave said about fan shroud :eating: Empty engine bays are gooder.
