putting a Corvette Engine is a syclone??

i saw on a european web page (i think) a syclone with a LT engine in it, with a twin turbo set-up...i wonder how fast the thing was? or what his set-up was...anyone else ever run across this?

i'm curious as to how easy this conversion would be? there are obviuous power increases because of the cid increase. would this set-up work with our single turbo application?

also, i would imagine that parts for this application would be easier to find and replace vs. our set-ups.

i know that this would take away from the "original" design of our trucks, but hell, if we are modifying them, then whats the difference anyway?

thoughts???

People are building 4.3's up with excellent results using parts that are easily available. Building a turbo V8 in a Syty would require lots of fabrication. That means either lots money out of your pocket, or lots of your time. Consider what your ATR headers cost, then double it for custom ones, or more. Note what an upgraded air/air cost, then double that if you want a custom one. Not to mention fitting a V8 in the engine compartment, along with turbo plumbing.

Parts replacement - a built 4.3 uses: Eagle rods - $400, TRW pistons, same as SBC, stock 4.3 crank = cheap, stock 4.3 block = cheap, 4 bolt main caps = same as SBC, Vortec heads = cheap, cam = same as SBC, turbo = expensive, same as you would have for turbo V8, once you have headers, never need to replace. You'd still need Speedpro/FAST for a turbo V8, same as with the V6.

Why do you want a V8? You already have a bad ass V6 setup making good hp..

I saw it, thought it was a hack job. TPI motor with twin turbos I believe. It was on a foreign guy's webpage, if that is any help.

I beleive you are talking about the geiger typhoons. There is a 4 door and a 2 door like our version. Both are for sale. I think the 4 door was like 150,000, and the 2 door was 125,000. Both are stick with 6 speeds. The 2 door has a single turbo and the 4 door has twin turbo's.

It could have been a geiger creation then. They made a couple 4 door typhoons as well. I dont know that much about them, but they did have a tpi twin setup, and the 4 door even had customized cladding that matched up.
Its posible they did a sy/sonoma i guess.

Just for fun, check out Chevy High Perf magazine March 2002 page 28 to see a lingenfelter (www.lingenfelter.com) experiment on a late S-15. It is pretty cool, but for what it might cost, you could fix your Sy/Ty and buy a new Corvette for your daily beater car!! Gary B & Ty 1845

There are several modified Sy’s and Ty’s in Europe. Most popular is the already mentioned Twin Turbo (TT) from Geiger Performance in Munich. They built a TT V8 4 door with custom made cladding to match the typhoon “outfit”.
The Syclone on my webpage (http://www.tyguy.net/gmc_sy_ttv8_berlin.htm) is milling with an LT1 engine a twin turbo setup and has everything (include A/C). He lowered compression and is running right now only 7 PSI of boost until the ignition is dialed in. Horsepower is rated in an area of 480 and this Sy is still AWD. The owner is a friend of Michael who had a Typhoon and is now rebuilding a Syclone which was used as a construction company work-truck in Austria (more pictures will be posted soon). The reason to build a TT is relatively easy. The owner blew the stock engine (rod hanging out of the block) and was not able to get a crate motor (German nightmare). He found the LT1 and likes turbos. Btw he owns 3 Ty’s, black, green and white (T boned just donor car for parts) and has a stock V6 turbo Syclone as well.
Michael drove this car and he said it’s scary. Time from 60 – 100 is almost a blink with the eye and please keep in mind, in Germany you don’t do drag racing from red light to red light but you annoy 911 and Bimmers if you show them your rear bumper at 120+
As soon as I get more details I’ll post it on my site. Cross fingers that I find the time to meet him in early March when I have to go to Germany for trade show duty.

I don't know if anyone has ever tried this, but, theoretically, you should be able to use the stock ECM with a turbo V8. There's a setting in the prom that lets the ECM work with 3, 4, 6 or 8 cylinder (even-fire only) engines. Although, if you had two turbos, you might need to use an aftermarket boost control mechanism (depending on how everything was hooked up).

Just a quick question, how do you justify all that work and $$ and only make 480HP even at 7PSI? And if you're gonna go through all that trouble why not an LS1? The Ghettosled made what 500+HP on 5PSI with a little old V6

I have a chance of puchasing a 96 corvette LTI. Would that fit in the TY and still use turbo's. Maybe Mike Lee can make a custom kit. But would it fit an would it be worth it or just go for mike's TT kit?
