Rocker Roller arms

What type of RR does the stock SyTy use? Self aligning? Are there valve cover clearance issues?

I am planning on changing my valve seals this spring so while I am in there I might want to upgrade. I currently have a set of SBC aluminum self aligning 1.5RR arm that came in a package deal that I bought and I have a set of 1.6RR/valve guides that I plan on putting on my Vette.

they are not self aligning... but its better to get self aligning ones to get rid of the gide plates (less wear).. order the comp cam ones with roller tips ..they worked great for me

Go with either Comp Cams Magnum roller tip rockers or Crane Cams narrow body roller rockers for centerbolt valve covers. Comp Cams Pro Magnum roller rockers are too wide and will not fit (I tried).

If you go with self-aligning rockers, then don't use guideplates. If you plan to use guideplates, then don't go with self-aligning rockers since the guideplates will fight with the rockers and chew up the pushrods.

I belive that the holes in the cylinder head casting is what aligns the valve train.

But then again, I've been wrong before

later model 4.3's are but not the syty stockers.
So does a stock syty have guide plates?

Stock Sy/Ty uses self-aligning stamped steel rocker arms. If you look at the rockers they have two stamped recesses to align the rocker arms over the valve stem tips.
