solid motor mounts

I am going to be putting solid mounts in my ty. I know that rpm sells a kit for around 170 bucks. I plan on welding the pads to the crossmember. Looking at rpm mounts, they look exactly the same as a standard sbc kit. The only difference i see is the rpm mounts have a larger base plate with the bolt pattern the same as the stock mounts. If i am welding the lower mounts in place I do not need or care about the bolt battern. It just seems excessive to pay 170 dollars for mounts that cost 50. Has anybody else tried this or understand what i a saying. Normally when I do a project, the cost of things is not my main concern. But this damn truck can really drain a pocketbook. I am about 3/4 through the rebuild and am trying to save a few bucks where I can.

Good luck on welding.

I wouldn't weld anything on my Sy and I bought rpm mounts.

It's worth

Re: solid motor mounts

Now now guys this is not my first rodeo. You bolt the mount to the block. Then bolt the pad to the engine mount, this is all done with the engine on the stand. Then you put the engine in and get a couple bell housing bolts snug. This locates the engine. Then you tack the pad in place. Remove the bolt pull the engine and fully weld the pad to the crossmember. This is all standard procedure when building a race car. How do you think a engine is set back in a chassis. Let me worry about the welding. I asked if the lower pads were the same.

Re: solid motor mounts

I just did solid mounts last weekend.
block side looks the same. frame side is way different.
That's why places like RPM fab a frame side mount that mates to the solid moroso or other similar solid setup.
Our frame side pad is triangular but i guess if your fabbing it and welding yourself you can make whatever work.

Re: solid motor mounts

I guess I was not specific enough. It is obvious the the lower pad is in a different configuration then a generic sbc mount. The lower portion of the pad is triangular to allow the pad to bolt in place of a factory pad. The part I am concerned with is the tubular portion that the Bolt would go through. The height looks to be the same as the rpm mount. I have no concern with the configuration of the flat portion of the pad as I will be welding it in place, the location of the stock bolts and holes on the crossmember is mute point. As long as the overall height is the same or real close it will work. I am just going to get a set of sbc mounts and see if they work. It seems that if anybody ventures too far off of the beaten path of mods this forum turns into a bunch of haters. The whole heart of modding anything is being different and trying new ideas. I respect tried and true methods, but that is not any fun. I have learned so much from the information on this forum, but there will always be something new to learn.

I don't know what the question is.

The part number there, 62500, IS the block side of the solid motor mounts that we use.

Sure - just weld it. Just watch your resulting engine height.
