Vortec head porting question

I started doing some p&p on a set of vortecs that I have. I was wondering first off if anyone has a good close up pic of the cc's? What I want to know is how you tackle the ramp on the back side of the plug hole. One side of the ramp has a sharp drop which means a lot of material comes off so Im looking for the finished transition shape, and if totally removing this is worth the effort and common practice.

Vortec head porting question

I'd suggest picking up the book by SA Chevy small block cylinder head performance. Lots of good info in there regarding porting on early model SBC heads

I leave porting up to my machinist who builds, among other things, high 8K rpm circle-track motors. But I have long heard that you want a "venturi" at the inlet valve seat. Do a search on "venturi inlet valve porting vortec" and check some of the links.

Someone a few years ago tested a set of ported vortec and non ported and the gains were nothing.
