Went to Shindig? Read This!

(1) - The Low Country Boil didn't go according to plan, so we had everyone go to Longhorns. We valued the LCB at about $5 per head, but since it went awry, we vowed to refund those who registered a full $10 for the goof-up. So, if you'd like your refund, please PM me your paypal addy and I'll send the money over as a gift (so you get the full $10).

(2) - Suggestions? We know a few things we're doing different, but we want to get your input. The things that will DEFINITELY change next time are:
- A different hotel. They changed management since 2010 and you can tell. Not clean, poor service, etc... Nonetheless, we're not going back....even if the new hotel is $10-$15 more per night, it's worth it.
- A different date. We've done November twice in a row and it's been cold as a witch's titty both times. I keep getting sh*t about the weather ;), so the only thing I know to do is bump up the date or move the location. The better choice is date change. So, look for Shindig 2014 to be in late September or early October.
- Come hell or high water....we'll have a low country boil. :D

(3) - Thank Sportmachines! They covered all the costs of the Autocross, so if you raced or rode, they covered it. Please extend a thank you to them by opening your wallet and dumping it in Tom's lap.

.....more will come to me.

Not your fault dude. We were gonna have a local seafood place do it up in your absence and I dropped the ball.

As much as I was looking forward to the boil, I love me some Longhorn. Put my money towards planning the next event. You paid for the late night Domino's anyway:D

Hotel was a little crummy, I wouldn't mind spending a few more bucks for a nicer place.
It was a little chilly. I would recommend moving it up some to get away from the Thanksgiving holiday too.
Is the drag racing necessary? A lot of time was spent and entrance fees were paid for not much in return.
I liked the name tags and the fact that most everyone wore them the whole weekend. Really helped getting over the awkwardness of not remembering names

Forgot to mention this in the other thread. Thank you Sportmachines!

I agree with everything. Had fun none the less. I usually go to my sister's in VA for Thanksgiving this same weekend, but because I had 2 vacations, 1 in VA, and 1 in SC the previous 2 months, didn't feel like making the drive back to VA again. Well, wife mainly. So figured it would be good to go to Shindig instead.

Date change I'd be down for. Get it away from the Thanksgiving holiday. The airport was super busy heading home, I'm betting for people heading out of town for that reason. Got there 4 hours before my flight left to see if I could catch an earlier one, but everything was booked.

Hotel wise, I think you should just build your own on your land. Plenty of room. Or a whole bunch of little cabins.

And you can keep my $10.

Re: Went to Shindig? Read This!

I think having a different hotel earlier in the year may eliminate some of the complains from people doing burnouts in the parking lot with quad cab diesel trucks.

I kinda got the heebs after seeing all of the home installed security cameras everywhere. Was expecting ones in the rooms. You'll probably see Adam/Ian/Rodney/Hood on dickdocking.us sometime in the near future.

A hotel with an available conference room would be a good idea as well, just in case there's rain, or for the first night's activities. I was worried Rodney was gonna try and give me a Slippery Ninja in the room when I first got there.

I liked that the hotel was close to the highway/food/WalMart. Made getting things a lot easier when you needed pedialite and immodium. I think the only person who came away from the track with a good impression was Harmon, cause he won the Dick See Chopper.

I think the location is good. For selfish reasons I think Orlando would be better, but I do like getting away for the weekend. I think the schedule could be based on who wants to do what. There were only a few people drag racing, so we probably could have dropped that.

We should have 2 days of auto crossing. ;-)

Pretty sure a murder was committed in our room on one of the beds and the mattress was just thrown on top of where the body was.

At least it didnt smell like Harmon's fingers this year in the hallway.

I think I owe you money. I forgot to pay for the 2 kids shirts. Let me know the cost and I'll send it right over. Lee

Date change for warmer weather

Name tags rock. Especially for me...I've never met anyone.

Donate my 10 bucks to the next Shindig or Sy/Ty.net

Thanks for a great weekend.

While I would like drag racing again, I also realize there wss way more call for the autox. That, and that rollercoaster that they called a drag strip doesnt appeal to me!

Didnt much care too much about the hotel...just a place to sleep, shower, and (in Rodneys case excessively) shit.

The fire was great...as I mentioned earlier maybe we all pitch in for a full keg of Y.

I also would like for you to keep my $ and bank it for next year.

Re: Went to Shindig? Read This!

The dragstrip is not necessarily required as most enjoy autocrossing and the dragstrip is about 45 min away from the hotel (though that's not really that far). We'll do a poll to be sure, but we may likely scratch the drag from next year (unless I get my $400 Cavalier, and then we're all going out there to watch me go sideways). Adam and I even had the idea to cancel drag this year, but we hoped it would be a different story weather-wise.

The two-day autocross is very likely, however, it will require some doing as most of the region is working on Friday and it'll be tough to swing the cost if we don't involve local drivers. We'll look into this, but a Sat/Sun is more doable than a Fri/Sat. Food for thought.....

Hotel redo is a definite....consider it done. If my wife wouldn't kill me, we'd have it at my place.

LCB is a definite.....consider it done.

We could change dates to be a Thursday/Friday-Monday/Tuesday deal instead. A lot of flight prices drop when you leave/arrive on an off-day like Thursday and Tuesday. We could do dinner Friday night to get it out of the way as things usually have a tendency to change as the weekend progresses.

Totally agree with this.

I think a Thur-Mon event would be best. Racing for two whole days, cheaper flights, and the pissed off look on your co-workers' faces when you come strutting back in Tuesday morning knowing you have 2 shortened work weeks is worth it.

My ass. Look at it.
Re: Went to Shindig? Read This!

First off, keep the $10. Put it towards next time or antibiotics from all of our shenanigans

Things didn't go exactly as planned, I cant imagine things going any better. I cant believe how much fun I had...truly epic. Part of the appeal of Shindig is that it is more relaxed than other events.

The location of the hotel is great for quick runs to Walmart or food, but hotel itself is truly lacking. Looked like Ian and Adam were sleeping on an afterbirth sponge.

The dragstrip is meh. I had a great time watching the circle track. Perhaps if the dates change for Shindig drag racing will be a more viable event. That 45 mile drive felt like 300.

I dunno, I had a fantastic time...no real complaints here!

Put the $10. back into the Shindig fund for me.
Had a great time. I didn't even miss lunch at the track was too busy shreading up tires anyway.
