5 Pinion gears ????

Old old group buy. Did these work out and any plans for these in the future? I'm very interested...
From old post:

"5 pinion instead of the stock 4 pinion arrangement.
The 5 gears will be 8620 case hardened. 8620 will be fine since there are so many gears in the housing now. Gears will be straight cut (spur) just like stock so no thrust and high load bearing ability is arranged.
Pinion gears will ride on needle bearings. Stock had NO bearings. Which is why the pinions always fall out during rebuilds. The unit will be round instead of the square pot metal configuration that is in them now. This will SIGNIFICANTLY strengthen the housing.
Total drop in unit whether you have the upgraded 32 spline input shaft or stock. It doesn't matter. This will fit all 1372/4472 transfer cases.
These are expensive complicated pieces.
I must get at least 10 units to make this happen. Any less than 10 isn't worth his time to manufacture.

This design also required a sun gear shaft. The sun gear shaft is 4340."

I believe the transfer case has proven to be one of the stoutest components of the whole drivetrain. Guys are using the stock transfer case in very high power applications. I can't recall ever reading of someone's planetary gearset failing.

Not trying to shoot your thought down, but there are a lot more valuable areas for you to spend your money.

IMO I wouldn't trust George Blake as far as I could throw him.Shit I might trust that ****** from Chicago more, the Guy who rolled up to all those Nats with the same broke ass truck.

No **** them both.

The only 5 pinion planetary parts I heard of are Hummer parts inside the trans, made of powdered metal and I broke the shit out of them.

A lot.

Re: 5 Pinion gears ????

There is a company out there that makes a 6 pinion planetary for "4L60"s. I saw them a year or so ago I cant remember how much they were but they werent cheap.

Is this your bush?
Re: 5 Pinion gears ????

I'd heard through the grapevine that the 5 ring planetary gears actually take away from surface area and weaken the planetary as a whole....a builder of 700r4 transmissions said he'd seen more 5 planetarys break than 4 planetarys. But he said he's only built about a thousand 700r4 ranging in horsepower from 300 to 1000+ hp so what has he seen or know?

Re: 5 Pinion gears ????

The OP is referring to the upgraded planetaries for our transfer case that was offered a few years back.. It was supposed to be a bad ass piece and I thought RPM took over the production of it??

Oh and yea.. What everyone else has said, the five pinion planetaries suck for our transmissions and are considered weaker due to being made from less structural and poorer materials...

Re: 5 Pinion gears ????

But this custom 5 pinion planetary is much stronger than the 4 pinion one!

That's for the TC and its a bad bitch!!! Just most of this thread is talking about a mixture of trans and TC plantaries...

You have the new sun gear for it too??? You should get these duplicated Aaron... I wouldn't mind having one!!

That's why you get the 5 gear factory GM planets, and not the aftermarket's. I've seen 1 fail and I'd never take that chance on aftermarket's again

Of course I have the sun gear too! I bought the complete case. I took it to Mark Williams and they said that they couldn't do custom parts right now...

I own a set of these.
George had them made here:

http://www.bbgearmachine.com/index.php

Also...George turned everything over to Mike Lee @ RPM so he should be able to make/source these.

*NOTE: you have to purchase both the 5 pinion and the sun gear together there are differences in the 5 pinion that change the sun gear so you cannot mix and match it has to be a set.
