not to try to push buttons or anything but i know 1.6 1.7 times are good and all but how come i dont see too many 1.4's i was just thinking that my cousin who is very into the 5.0 scene he has a few friends shooting 1.4 60 ft times and there just rear wheel drive mustangs with slicks i just thought that awd car would would have better 60ft times than a 5.0 stang but feel free to school me in this area i do not own a syclone now but will in the near future.

I highly doubt your mustang buddies are shooting for those 60ft times on street tires. Slicks yes.

Most guys here run street tires, or mostly street tires.

Most mustangs are almost 1k lbs lighter also.

Where in chicago are you from? do you street race?

people have hit better numbers than 1.6 but most of the people on this board are relativly stock i would say.

there would be a bunch hitting 1.5's as well as 1.4's but the awd limits you, also take into consideration the weight.

Do evo's or sti's or other awd vehicles hit 1.4 or better often?

Re: 60 ft times

Ask Phill what his 60ft time was on his last run. He had to be faster then 1.5

i live by 64th and harlem if you know where that is

but yes they are hitting 1.40's with slicks on a street tire i dont know. i thought the awd drive would help you but maybe not, the weight difference i could see. do i street race not really maybe ill screw around every once in a while but not for money or anything.

The main deal a Sy/TY can can do is 60ft great w/out slicks or drag radials.
A Rustang w/out there drag radials or slicks is usually easy prey against Sy/Ty's

I don't know if you call them street tires, but I have a bunch of buddies that are getting better short times on MT Drag Radials's than on ET Streets. I'm sure that someone will try to call BS on this, but I know a few people with Street / Race cars dipping in to the 1.2x 60' times on MT Dr's. I have 2 friends that are consistantly cutting 1.3x 60' times on the same tires. Bad thing is that the tire technology is getting so good that they are constantly having to do tranny work & rearend work. I'm not talking about cheap tranny's either they are both running Rosslers.

Here is a Video of one of my buddies cutting a 1.34 on Mickey Thompson Dr's.

http://media.putfile.com/TA-925

60' - 1.342
1/8 - 5.867 @ 116.72
1/4 - 9.251 @ 143.90

Don't get me wrong, for all intents & purposes this is a race car. But it still has AC & is more than full weight, he does take it out on weekends & drives it a lot. That's on a progressive 200 shot starting at about a 50 shot out of the hole & ramping up to 200 pretty quick, that motor is built to take about a 400 shot, but he's still shaking it down. I have another video some where of the same car on MT Dr's standing up on the back bumper & coming down hard on the oil pan.

Last I heard Nitto ran the drag radial class' and did not allow the MT drag radial for fear of being shown up in their own event?

I cut a 1.73 at one of the shittiest tracks in the world on stock sus. And I have at least 8 other slips around that same time. I know my truck can cut 1.6's on $54 Kumho's, I just need to get it tuned to take advantage of the power its got, and isnt showing.

Re: 60 ft times

I pull 1.8's and there is always something wrong with my truck. I think that is pretty damn respectable for any strret car. I was only clicking off 14.3 but was also having some pretty bad topend issues and a week later my crank fell apart. I think that when you consider a 1.6-1.9 60' on a mildly modded or stock vehicle I think that is very admirable.

Re: 60 ft times

Another reason that alot of 60 ft times may not be as quick as expected is the 700r4s suck for handling launches and alot of us like myself dont have alot of money to spend on say a 4l80e or th400 so when we race, we either race from no launch or a very low psi launch say maybe 5 psi at the very most to prevent tranny destruction.

With crappy weather, crappy track, stock suspension, and heat problems I pulled 1.8's consistently. It honestly felt like I get better launches on the street than I ever did at the track, but maybe its just me.

Maybe someone else can chime in here....

But I feel the stock suspension for the Typhoon is very good. My short times were quite a bit better on the stock suspension and nittos than when I did new shocks all around.

BUT I did change from nittos to Dunlops' around the same time but felt the problem was coming from the shocks and the change in weight transfer than the tires.

Either way I think the stock suspension is better than any direct shock replacement. Now a coilover would be another story.

Anyone agree/disagree with this?

Coilovers make a big difference on a Ty. Problem is they are not as easy to fabricate has for a Sy.
